As if you needed an update...we're 1.5 out of the Wild Card, behind the Mets. The Phils are 1.5 ahead of them. Best to root for losses to both, just to make sure.
Go...Cubs?
[UPDATE] Phils win, but Mets lose. 1 game back.

since we are all Cubs fans for the next 4 days there is something on WGN at 8 CT called “All-Time All-Chicago Team”. I don’t know if it is limited to baseball but I think that the “superfans” from the SNL skit should make the cut.

the scary part is that Lou probably won’t push his better bullpen pitchers

This is doable… if the Brewers made the playoffs it would be the biggest up and down in September ever… I don’t know if I could handle it if they did make it
I had just accepted they were in the playoffs when the collapsed… after the Cub meltdown last week, I accepted they were out of the playoffs… now if they are back in… wow, lot of work to do, need to take care of business against the Pirates, but talk of Gallardo gets me excited

I don't think Gallardo will start
I think for now they will save him to eat some innings if one of the starters goes down(Sheets) or implodes(Suppan), and in the playoffs they should just piggyback him with Sheets if his elbow isn’t feeling much better.

This morning I heard Haudricourt discussing Suppan and he sounds pretty convinced that he is hiding an injury.
Speaking of injuries, in his blog he talks about a Braun cryptic answer that he interpreted as evidence that he is still not fully recovered from his rib injury. Makes me pissed all over at chucklehead Ned for taking him on that West coast trip.
by ol Pete on Sep 22, 2008 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Speaking of hiding an injury and Haudricourt...
… did Tom H. ever actually put in a print story that Braun admitted he was still hurting physically the other day? I saw it on his blog as an add on in irritated ALL CAPS because “so many people asked me about it”, but I didn’t see it in the articles he wrote for the following day. Can’t imagine why he wouldn’t want to lead with that, but maybe I just missed it.

by ol Pete on Sep 22, 2008 10:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ok.
But reporters who hide injuries for the teams they cover and then act annoyed when they’re called on it, throw it in a late night blog entry only a couple hundered people will see, and then neglect to mention the situation in the published article, are douche bags.
I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Sep 23, 2008 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not sure which story you want him to put it in. From hearing him, I think the truth is the opposite of what you posit about him hiding injuries. I don’t know if he was annoyed, but if he was I don’t find that to be a character flaw.

Cubs Perspective
Much rather see the Brewers in the playoffs, dishing out some CC to those Phillies in the first round, and no question I want to sweep the Mets right out of stink-bomb Shea, but I gotta say it would be a much easier first round to face these sucky Mets.

Yes,
that’s what I think…you disagree? I’m basing on the Mets a0re collapsing, bullpen in shambles, Billy Wagner out, & Marquis our #5 handled their hitters pretty easily. Seems like Dodgers top 2 starters are coming around, have 2 closers (kind of), and Manny. The Cubs should get through either one I guess.
I think these Brewer fans who have been all gloom & doom are in for a pleasant suprise as Brew-Crew takes wild card. Wouldn’t a tie and a 163rd game Monday be sweet though?
