Game Thread #PS minus 5: Pirates at Brewers (1 GB)

Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers, Sep 24, 2008 7:05 PM CDT

Here's what we've got for tonight:

You may recall that, last time CC faced the Pirates, he pitched pretty well.  That track record ought to be enough to offset any effects of overuse.  This is the day we move back into a tie.

Go Brewers!

Best case scenario

The Crew score 8 runs in the first 3 innings so CC can be pulled and allowed to rest for his big day on Sunday.

... and the Cubs score 10 in the first against the Mets....

…. and Zambrano goes psycho and quits the team AFTER shutting the Mets down…. oh, and I win the lottery tonight.

THAT’s the best case scenario.

I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

from what I've read

Branyan isn’t ready to start or play much. Just pinch hit. No word (that I’ve found) on Kapler’s return other than “possibly soon for pinch hitting”.

as to the Mug: yep I read it usually. Sometimes I miss details. Other times details aren’t there;)

BK: was that your version of “RTFM”?

Jason Kendall is playing all eight defensive positions

Craig Counsell is pitching. Dale told everyone else they had the day off and sent them to Wisconsin Dells. Except Mike Rivera, who must come to the game and sit in the dugout by himself until the seventh inning. During the eighth and ninth innings Mike will be available in the concourse behind home plate for general taunting by fans and kicks to the shins from children under 16.

a perfect game to rest Kendall

and Hall second. I dunno. Sveum has some different opinions on some players and different strategies, but he answers in a somewhat similar fashion. His response to bunting was something like “thats what I do” which reminds me of my favorite Yost quote – “that’s my style.”

Last bit.

“We aren’t going to pursue the high level guys but maybe some mid level guys. We aren’t going to spend money just to spend money. If there is a bat that makes us better that is something we have to explore”. You might expect that but sounds smart.

Johnson Cedeno Blanco

Crappy part of the Cubs order. As as I write that Johnson gets an infield single.

playoff question

is it possible for a 3 way tie?
mets/phillies/brewers?

would it be loser of mets/phillies game plays brewers? or would it be brewers wildcard, the other two duke it out for division? or would head-to-head in the rest of the season determine east loser, which then plays brewers?

Mets phils play

Then we play the loser. They changed it a few years back or we would have auto got in.

Soriano's a freak. The pitch before his hit...

… his knees actually buckled on a fastball. It looked like he didn’t have a clue. Then he’s all over the next pitch.

Is it possible

The Mets announcers are insufferable

Now they are on Randolph for breaking the unbreakable axiom:
“Guard the lines in the 7th”

by Braun Holio on Sep 24, 2008 8:47 PM CDT reply actions

That's an axiom?

first I’ve heard of it, and I work in Baseball

I just sit back and root for the taser

Randolph?

he was fired 3 months ago so that’s not fair

seriously

totally unfair, but when you have Hernandez going, it’s going to be bad. You know he eats babies

So...

CC done after this inning? He is pitching great, but you can’t run the tank dry if we need him in 3 more days.

My only regret is that I have but one life to give to my blog
