So...
some people will inevitably bitch about how Piniella laid down for the Mets today.
I don’t see the complaint, though, since no one in the Cubs minor league system could’ve pitched worse than Jesse Chavez today.

it wasn't the Iowa Cubs batters that lost them the game
Micah Hoffpauir was kicking Mets pitching from one end of Shea to the other.
It was the usual suspects in the Cubs bullpen who threw that game up.

Mets suck and you get to face our Cub team that is going into signficant rest mode over the weekend. Ryan Dempster has a 75 pitch count limit tomorrow night. Ditto Ted Lilly. Mark DeRosa is out until the playoffs. Carlos Marmol will not be used until possibly Sunday.

The pitching callups are going to be used extensively....
Kevin Hart, Randy Wells, Angel Guzman, Michael Wuertz…. Chad Gaudin will also see action. None of those 5 are expected to make the roster for the NLDS. You should see little of Wood, Marmol, Samardzija, Howry, Cotts and Marshall. Dempster and Lilly will be capped at 75 pitches. Jason Marquis is the only starter who will have the green light to go longer because he shuffles to the pen for the playoffs.

But wait, that would mean that
The Bosox would have to overtake the Rays to beat the Angels in the ALCS. Not gonna happen.

Powell's call
I thought his call of the grand slam was pretty good. Good emotion, volume, and letting the fans be heard.

Best HR call I've ever heard from Powell
It’s even a mini poem!
“Swing and a drive to left!
Way back!
Way gone!
A grand slam for Braun!”
Just got back from work. Was able to watch it on TV with the sound down and ended up listening to the SportsBubbler game recap of Powell’s call about 6 times in a row. Could probably go for 6 more.
Awesome.
Use the brown eye, ump!

he sounded like a kid when he was making the call, it was kind of funny

The funny thing is
this picture was taken BEFORE the game, during BP.
I think he has Baseball Fever™…catch it!

I'm still running victory laps.
I think it’s time we acknowledge the true pinnacle of the evening though: Craig Counsell’s heroic walk to somehow keep the inning alive.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Was it just me or did Counsell show off for the crowd by doing a little bat waggle by the foul line before he stepped up to the plate?

Best Game Ever!
Thanks to our baby, my wife and I got bumped up to the Midwest Express “Best Seats” When the Pirates were leaving the field from Warm Ups I waved my baby and Jack Wilson tossed him a ball (and then Hanel gave him one too).

That was nice of him.
Wait…“waved your baby”? I’m not sure what that means, but it doesn’t sound good.

Babies
You can just make another.
So that was you in those seats. Did they not ask what the baby’s name was or did you not want to tell them. When the announcer introduced the three of you, it sounded kind of weird when he added the ‘and their baby’ part. Like he wasn’t a person or something.

Right!
That’s why you have more than one. You have “Baby” and then you have “Back-up Baby,” in case something happens to the first one.

One important back-up baby rule
If they’re hitting above .300, keep them on the bench in case the baby batting .243 every gets injured or cuts himself trimming his beard.

Don’t forget the situational left-handed baby that specializes in being waved.

They didn’t ask for the babies name, and there were only two slots on the form they had us fill out (and I didn’t think about it because I was excited just to sit there).

selfish, selfish, selfish
is this the lesson you wish to teach your children?
Have cute kids and use them to get whatever you want?
Actually…that’s a pretty good lesson;)
