We're still tied for the wildcard, and both the Mets and Brewers are one game behind the Phillies. Here's the situation this evening:
- 6:05 CT: Nats at Phils, Balester v. Blanton. For good measure: the weather report.
- 6:10 CT: Marlins at Mets, Volstad v. Pelfrey. At the moment, it's not raining outside my window (a few miles from Shea), but it looks like that won't last.
- 7:05 CT: Cubs at Brewers, Dempster (for 75 pitches, anyway) v. Suppan. I think we can live without a weather report on this one.
The lineup is the Sveum-era vRHP usual, and Hardy is in there. It'll be interesting to see which Cubs regulars are starting, and how long they last.

I honestly have no idea.
DeRosa definately will be out, because of his injury in the Mets series. Soto still has hand swelling, I think. Theriot should definately play, because Cedeno got hurt in the Mets series as well. Beyond that, it’s like casting bones figuring out what Piniella is thinking.
Time to get Suppan fired up
Tell him that with every Cubs win, $5,000 goes to stem cell research.

He would throw hittable balls like Suppan, that way everything is in play and you throw less pitches (lile Suppan 10 whole pitches in the 1st)

I thought it was over, and had given up all hope. Beating the Cubs today restored all hope.

Yeah.
He really walked the tight rope tonight. But thinking back, it’s tough to say he just got lucky. He had that charom of his foot go to Prince for an out, but if it had gone through it might have been a double play. The only other instance of obvious luck I recall is that slash by Dempster that went right to Counsell. He got some huuuuuge strikeouts when he needed them, which quite frankly is a little shocking. I’m not saying he’s suddenly become Sheets or anything, but it’s tough to find the bad in his outing tonight, other than the fact that he was pulled in the 5th.

All throughout the season, I’ve just thought that all he’s wanted was to be useful to the team and to be trusted. It looks like Sveum just gave him the ultimate chance, and he pulled it off. I’m so happy for him.
I listened to the last three outs on my way home from work. I did record the game and I’m still watching the Suppan portion of the program. :)

McClung was awesome. The only think missing was him intensely slamming back whatever is in the gatorade cups with both hands like he did in Wrigley.
