Game Thread #PS minus 2: Cubs at Brewers

Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers, Sep 27, 2008 2:55 PM CDT

This afternoon's matchup is Ben Sheets (yes!) and about 75 pitches of Ted Lilly.

Lineups are here--Piniella is sending in the second string.  That was hardly a guarantee of victory for the Mets, though.  Either Sveum had an epiphany or Durham is really hurting--Weeks is in there, batting 7th.

Game time is 2:55 CT, it's on FOX, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Sheets

I bet he’ll do everything he can to go at least four innings even if he’s hurting. If he goes 4+ and gives up one earned run, he threw over 200 innings this year with a sub-3.00 ERA.

Since Dale Sveum took over as head honcho, Corey Hart has an amusing .200/.186/.250 line in 44 PA.

"Amusing" isn't the word I would use

I think Weeks has started vs. every lefty the Brewers have faced in the Sveum era, by the way. Durham probably wouldn’t have gone today even if at full strength.

Inexcusable

This game is for your season…it was obvious from the first inning that Sheets (bless his soul for giving it a try) did not have it. There is no excuse for not yanking him after the first or even the second inning and going to Bush.

by badgermaniac on Sep 27, 2008 3:42 PM CDT reply actions

no arguments here

The problem is that it is hard to say what “healthy” means. Most pitchers will tell you that they hurt…often. It is just a matter of degrees. I don’t have a problem with putting him out there to start, but you have to read what he is tossing…and it was so apparent that he had nothing that you can’t keep him out there.
