Well I figured Sheets doesn't have good aim with a ball,

so maybe I won’t pick on him with other aiming difficulties…

How can you throw anyone besides Gallardo?

by JimiLayne on Sep 27, 2008 6:07 PM CDT up reply actions

At least they got a hit

Almost coming back almost makes the loss tougher than if they were shut out.

Need a good game from CC tomorrow.

Mets vs Marlins Pitchers

Scott Olsen vs Ollie Perez (on 3 days rest)

Will Perez strikeout 10 or walk 8?

Both!

Just a thought

What if Parra would have gotten the start?

He looked rather decent actually.

A combination of him and Difilice wouldve ben nice. But youcant torture yourself with what ifs.

by JimiLayne on Sep 27, 2008 6:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Not that kind of what if

No way could/should they have considered it. But he did throw very well.

If playoffs, he could be valuable.

by Lake County on Sep 27, 2008 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Hell Bush and Parra combo might have won

I am sorry but once again Ben Sheets was not there when the Crew needed him

if he was not healthy enough to pitch well he should have just said I cannot go skip and let the other guys try to get the win

I really hope they do not resign him.

Not picking on you specifically,

and I know it’s a straw man, but this was a bad situation all-around for Ben. If he doesn’t go, he gets accused of not pitching through pain, being weak, etc.

true

Perhaps Sveum should have noticed earlier that Ben’s velocity was not up to snuff and, despite Ben’s tendency to be a slow starter, he was not getting much better by the end of the 2nd.

by Oakland Brewer Fan on Sep 27, 2008 8:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm sorry

But every know-nothing head up their a$$ fan has been bitching for the last several years that Sheets has no ‘heart’. Today he showed them how clueless they are. He had ok velocity, in the low 90s. He just had no control and the manager and the catcher calling the great game should have figured that out a tad quicker. To rag on Sheets for today is the height of ignorance.

by Getting Yosted on Sep 27, 2008 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

this has nothing to do with heart

It has to do with doing what is best for the team and if Sheets went out there knowing he did not have it today he hurt the team.

I am so tired of Sheets always getting a pass it is never Ben’s fault

So I guess we should clap and say Good Job Ben going out there at 60% don’t worry about the 4 earned runs in 2 innings its ok you gave it the old college try and that is all that matters. Hell we have not made the playoffs in 26 years one or two more years will not kill us right?

Just as long as we do not blame Ben for anything heavens forbid we say anything negative about Sheets.

If Loving CC is wrong I do not want to be right

by WSB Chris on Sep 28, 2008 12:46 AM CDT up reply actions

Take it easy

it was the best option for the team, Parra’s arm is rubber right now and hopefully next year he will come back. Bush pitched yesterday without being prepared for his start. What the hell do you actually want? An imaginary pitcher that we don’t have that is rested and ready? Sheets tried to give us a shot, him at not exaggerated 90% is better than most pitchers and he gave it a shot. Every pitcher we have has gone the extra mile recently and Sheets threw his hat in the ring. He is one of our best and he tried. It has nothing to do with your imaginary battle against Sheets (as if he tries to undermine the Brewers) or people/fans giving him anything extra- there were no better options! Christ dude- take a step off the ledge- this is what led to you ending your site- you take everything personally. Sheets tried- if you were him- the ace of the Brewers for years- with nobody else rested- and your injury is not season ending you would try- he did. And thanks to him for trying. It is Baseball! They were no-hit till the 7th- who cares who was pitching! We scored 4 runs on 2 hits against the Freaking Pirates, we were tied all day 1-1 with them until the 10nth the day after. You want to put 26 years on Sheets and our offense can barely beat the Freaking Pirates right now. If we do get in it would be great, but, we are not playing well offensively at all, #3 Braun and #5 Hart are cold, and that is the reason why we are here, RISP, but you can close down your site with your crazed Sheets hate talk and come over here and spread it with people who know the game, we lost, baseball teams do at least 1/3 of the time, Torres is a gift from God so far without a real closer this year, could we expect more? I am sorry, I love the Crew and have watched way too much baseball this year because of it, and I want to get to the playoffs, this group right now will be out in 3 if they don’t get their heads right at the plate- it has NOTHING to do with Sheets.

Sheets after the game
“That’s it. That’s all I had,” Sheets said after the game. “I got a broke arm; I got a broke arm. It’s not really broke, but it’s all I had for the year. Things definitely don’t look like they’re on my side.”

Despite the dicey condition of his elbow, Sheets said he felt confident going into the start.

“I thought I could make some pitches and maybe get us in five or six quality innings,” he said. “You don’t know unless you go out and try. On other days, I didn’t think I was going to feel as good and got through the game.

"There’s always that chance that everything lines up right and you have a quality start.”

link. Doesn’t sound optimistic about him being available in the postseason even if they do make it.

that's sad, i feel for the guy

Possibly feeling pressure from seeing Gallardo pitching recently off a torn acl and cc continuing to dominate on 3 days rest plus the constant harping and groaning from the fans about his “toughness” or lack of being there in key situations, Sheets tried to give anything he had and as he said, “That’s all I had”.

I feel for the guy. If that was it for Ben in a Brewers uniform, thank you for the great performances.

I untuck my shirt!

by Michael M on Sep 28, 2008 12:12 AM CDT up reply actions

I appreciate that he tried

when we basically had no other options to start who would have likely done better. Besides, I think getting no-hit for most the game had more to do with our losing than Sheets.

That said…the Ben Sheets saga has been pretty frustrating to watch over the past few years. I’ll regret it when we’re forced to start an older, wiser Rafael Roque in 2009, but I can’t say I’ll miss all the Sheets injuries and drama.
