Ok, well, that sucked. We do have a nice little respite from what could turn out to be a tough month: four games against the Padres then three with the Reds.
Tonight could be interesting, with the matchup of Jeff Suppan and Shawn Estes. They've both been around for about the same amount of time, and seven or eight years ago, the smart money might have been on Estes to have the better career. But Suppan stayed healthy, so now he'll stay in a higher tax bracket for the rest of his life.
Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

if the brew crew can’t beat a first place team, well, at least it oughta be able to take out their frustrations on a last place team….

well, then, the Brewers are just going to have to figure out a way to win the division, and then play a wildcard team, likely the cubs in the NLDS, and beat them, because they wouldn’t be a first place team at that point, and then hope that the D-backs get past the mets or the phillies, because they’re a crappy excuse for a first place team
and then, in the world series, take out the AL wild card team (which, given that it’s looking like Boston right now, wouldn’t be a far fetched scenario), and voila, party time in Milwakee!

There is a problem with your plan.
If the Brewers win the division, they can’t play the Cubs in the first round. So either way, the Brewers are playing the winner of the West in the first round.
Except that they will play the winner of the East
if they don’t win the division. Winner of the Central will play the winner of the West (assuming the the Central winner has the best record in the NL which looks like a lock.) and the winner of the East will play the Wild Card team.

with nothing to do on an off day I figured Id come over here and read ya’lls duscussion, and I had to laugh at this. Some of the cubs fans are really freaking out over the 5 game losing streak like its the end of the season, instead of just a slump. Kinda made me laugh.
It's not like you guys aren't gonna win the division...

Yep, we got lucky though
Ya’ll lost 3 in a row during the stretch so u’ve only made up 2 games. I think we both can understand how fast a lead can disappear, ya’ll gained 4 games on us after the all star break in as many days I think.

I’m just happy to see the cards and phils keep losing too. Neither one of us really lost any ground over this stretch.

Jeff Suppan vs. Dave Bush
It seems like every time Dave Bush is at the plate and I’m listening to the radio broadcast, Jim Powell makes sure to talk about how he’s a fairly good hitter for a pitcher. Does he do the same for Jeff Suppan who, even without that single, has hit better than Bush over his career? I can’t remember.

I think that the only reason that say that over and over and over again is because Bush used to be a catcher in college so he actually got to hit. I don’t have any idea how well he did, but that is the only reason I can think that they would say that.

more often than not….didn’t get cable until recently, so I’m just used to Powell and Uecker’s calls, and even when I sit down to watch a game (still rare, do you know how much quality crap there is on cable TV???!!), I just turn the radio on to accompany the pictures…

I don’t think I mentioned this in the post game thread. But yesterday when I was walking out of the Suite (Thanks QWest!) I was in. Jack Z and DM walk right past me.

I know Kendall is hitless today, and his OPS is somewhere sub-700. But the mere mention of Estrada’s name made me so thankful that we have Kendall instead of Estrada. Estrada was the opposite of grit. Usually being slow and unathletic should count into one’s KUG, but in Estrada’s case he combined it with a lack of hustle and apparently a bum knee.
This is all apropos of nothing.
