What Yostian cliche will be used today?

“1 Pitch away?”
“Few mistakes hurt?”
“No need to panic and change things, we are still in the wild card slot?”
“You have no concept?”

here goes

“looking to get one big hit and we didn’t get it”
“Supp pitched okay” – that translates as shitty
“it is what it is”

Though with Yost “It is what it is” should be the middle gimme space.

it is what it is

is such a pointless statement. Save us all time and just don’t say anything. Stop wasting oxygen.

Maybe he's not

The team’s dealt with a difficult four-game losing streak already this year.

I don't think that's a bad thing

There’s no point in feeding the panic.

If we collapse in September and don’t make the playoffs, I hope that maybe the Cubs will too, to cover up our ineptitude like the Mets did last year.

Even better would be not collapsing though.

Bill Hall’s OPS is .550 against RHP this year. I think the time has come where he needs to be pinch-hit for late in games like Mench and Jenkins were last year.

Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)

Skaalen

I wonder if he goes over the at bats. He should ask him if some of the pitches looked like strikes. Sigh.

What's the point?

Billy’s going to do what he’s always done. The only questions are: will he get hot soon, and do you have someone you like better to plug in.

Typical

Hall goes 1 for 3 with a walk, a K and an RBI. Braun, Fielder and Hart all go 1 for 4 with a K. The problem, of course, is that Hall wasn’t pinch-hit for late in the game.

Yeah

Amazing how people don’t pile on the guys who usually hit in favor of dumping on the guy who, well, doesn’t.

No

Nobody’s piling on Hall. I commented when he bizzarely waved at a pitch that didn’t start out good and ended skipping through the batter’s box.

keep working that sample

Anyone who follows you knows you love Hall and Weeks and think they deserve special treatment regardless of any other consideration.

If there was a lefty on the mound in the ninth

I’d be all in favor of letting him hit. Against a righty, not so much.

Ohhhh!

I thought 42 cents was pretty inexpensive, but I didn’t want to say anything.

Gallardo update from Jim Powell
I had a good conversation with Gord Ash about Yovanni today before the Padres’ opener. Gallardo has taken his first round of Pitchers’ Fielding Practice (PFP), which is a big hurdle to clear. He will throw another simulated game this weekend. There are still no forecasts from the Brewers about Gallardo’s possible return, but Gord did say that if things continue to progress, they will send Gallardo to Arizona to pitch against the Instructional Leaguers (look out boys!) in an effort to get him ready for big league action. I think the big issue will be whether Gallardo can learn to trust the knee enough to play naturally. If he doesn’t have setbacks, I am starting to like his chances of being a part of the playoff bullpen, if indeed there is one.

Y-O-V-A-N-I, Jim.

Well, at least the bullpen didn’t suck?

The Brew Is Half FULL

Well put. About the only thing positive from this game really. Anyone else have something to stop me from going into panic mode?

ummm

we’re still 4 games up in the wild card?

by Completely Useless By September on Sep 4, 2008 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

True

but my Grueneberg ganglion is getting a bit twitchy.

by ol Pete on Sep 4, 2008 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions

 1) The Brewers had 9 hits.
2) They actually got a hit off of Trevor Hoffman; not that he is what he once was, but that’s one step closer to a total save explosion!
3) Hardy hit a homer.
most importantly
4) Suppan won’t pitch for another 4 days and CC and Sheets are coming up in the rotation.

If anyone's still up

Helena’s in the 13th.

After an Albertosaurus RBI single to give the H-Crew a 3-2 lead, they got two more runs on a wacky play
  • Christopher Dennis grounds into a force out, first baseman Brett Bartles to catcher Kevin Coddington. Cutter Dykstra out at home. Erik Komatsu scores. Brock Kjeldgaard scores. Christopher Dennis advances to 2nd, on throwing error by catcher Kevin Coddington. Throwing error by right fielder Matt Stiffler.
