Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Okay, figure this one out. It's after 9/1, so Lamb's not eligible for the postseason roster, and he's left-handed, so he's not a replacement for Bill Hall. Lamb hit .240/.283/.331 (BR neutralized) in 261 PA for the Twins earlier this year before getting kicked to the curb; for reference, Craig Counsell is hitting a neutralized .240/.340/.318 for the Brewers this year.

On the other hand, Lamb was on the Doug Melvin Rangers...

Lamb

I still think he’s be a better option to start against righties than Counsell. Lamb’s sucked offensively this year, but he’s been able to hit in the past. He’s not a star and he doesn’t have Counsell’s grit, but I don’t mind giving him a shot.

At the very least, he should be another option at third base for the beginning of next year while they figure out what to do with Gamel. I can’t imagine there will be a big demand for him in the offseason so unless he truly hates Milwaukee (in which case he could’ve signed elsewhere), he would probably come back.

Running Lamb through Sax Baxamusa’s quick-n-dirty Marcel tool, he’s projected to hit .261/.324/.407 over the balance of the year.

BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"

Lou Palmisano DFA to make room.

Hmmm

What happens when you DFA a minor-leaguer? I assume he’s not available to be plucked by another team?

I think it's the same as a major leaguer

Any team could claim Palmisano if they put him on their 40-man roster right away. I suspect the front office is figuring the fact he had knee surgery earlier this year and hasn’t starting catching again yet will keep him from being claimed.

There are exactly 5 third basemen in baseball worse than Bill Hall...

if you go by VORP (100 PAs or more). Bill Hall’s is -4.2. The guys that are worse are:

Donnie Murphy: -4.6
Jose Castillo: -5.5
Jack Hannahan: -9.7
Mike Lamb: -10.5
Andy Marte: -11.6

I guess you can fall off the floor.

So does Palmisano being DFA'd make him the sacrificial Lamb?

Flagged for repeating my sacrifice-Lamb joke in comment 1.

My joke was terrible; repeating it is just unforgivable.

Sabathia's going to be happy

He lost out on Hamburger, we can’t trade for Pie, so now we got some Lamb. Mmmm

I apologize for that

That was one where I should have written it, looked at it, then not posted it.
