Game Thread #142: Padres (54-87) at Brewers (81-60)
San Diego Padres @ Milwaukee Brewers
It's not been an easy run for Ben Sheets lately -- first Johan Santana, now Jake Peavy. And like with Santana, it's the second time this year he's drawn the matchup -- back on August 14, Peavy outdueled him.
Game time is 6:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.
Go Brewers!

The deciding game in the Sally League championship, the last minor league game of the year for Brewers affiliates. The time for an updated prospect list is nigh.

I think they play another series if they win for the SAL championship
From WV Power’s website:
The Power will finish their best of three game series in the first round of the playoffs against the Lake County Captains at Classic Park on Saturday night. The Power will start left hander Lucas Luetge (2-1, 3.72) and the Captains will counter with left hander Erik Berger (0-0, 2.08). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
Hopefully Luetge pitches well, too bad they can’t throw Anundsen again.
Sat: George 2 (37, missed catch, fielding) Fri: George (35, throw) Tues: George (34, throw)

I’m blaming that one on the allergy meds. If I’m MIA in the game thread, send someone to peel me off the couch.

News from the front
Centerfielder Mike Cameron has been scratched from the Brewers’ starting lineup tonight against San Diego with a sore left knee. We weren’t told the origin of the soreness. We were told it is not considered serious.Gabe Kapler will replace Cameron in center and bat in his No. 6 spot in the lineup.
The Brewers’ first-round draft pick, Brett Lawrie, is here today to work out with the Brewers.

I actually wanted to know the prevailing opinion on the question
If I put in the Carlos George All-Stars, everyone would vote for them.

Same here
Pitching seems to win playoff series more often that not, and both the Dodgers and Diamondbacks are pretty scary in that department.

If we remain the wildcard, you won't have to worry about facing the Dodgers
At least not in a short series.

Hmm
Given that ol’ Noodle Arm (52/8 SB/CS this year, 121/10 last year) is behind the plate for the Padres, I wonder if they’ll run tonight.

Sporting No. 13 on his home uniform, Lawrie hit a number of pitches over the wall in left that reminded manager Ned Yost of reigning NL Rookie of the Year winner Ryan Braun.“He’s got a very nice swing,” Yost said. “He’s a strong young man. He kind of reminds me of Braunie when he came in.”
Lawrie is confident about his future, too.
“I want to be up by the time I’m 20 years old,” he said.
