Holy crap.

I missed the game, but just saw the play-by-play on ESPN Gamecast. That must have been infuriating to watch.

Nah

Game was over by the fifth inning, when I tuned in. By that point, it was just a matter of how historically bad the game was going to be.

Go Mets.

But if your lose, please lose the next 10 games as well. It’s only the polite thing to do.

Ted Simmons on FSN

Telling Trenni how tough Chris Young is. Yep, with his 5 ERA.

We’ve got a offensive outage. Everyone is swinging for the fences, and the opposition knows it.

Ned just gave Trenni the "if you ever played"

What a dickmove. Not the greatest question, but hardly an out of bounds one.

Basically to the effect of

“does this frustration ever turn to anger?”

A bit silly, but I’m sure a lot of casual fans out there wonder just such a thing.

Did anyone ask about Billy?

by ol Pete on Sep 7, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

About what exactly?

Ned mentioned that “if he catches it, etc” in the context of the big inning.

That’s all I heard. The man just can’t hit the softball questions at all…just recaps the game for us.

The "if you ever played" line is the last bastion of the dumb jock who finds himself being questioned.

Ned just happens to be dumb and an a##hole simultaneously.

I think that Rickie has the coolest batting music.

It builds my expectations up so high (making it so much worse when he pops up or strikes out). But I wish they would play it while he is running the bases after any homeruns he hits.

Wait, what?

Rickie’s song is awful. If I had a choice, I’d go with the instrumental for Pharoahe Monche’s Simon Says

What is it now?

He had Superstar for a little while at the beginning of the year, and that was OK, but I don’t think that’s what he’s using now, is it? Go Getta is really signature, I can pick the first part of it on the radio and know that Braun is coming up if I’m not listening to closely.

Is Kapler criticizing small sample sizes?
“Baseball is not meant to be looked at in a nutshell, not meant to be looked at in a period of four, five [or] six games,” said Kapler. “It’s meant to be looked at over the long haul. That’s why we have batting averages. That’s why we have ERA. Statistics are special in baseball because they tell a story over a long period of time. Over a short period of time, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to analyze it.”

Whoooo! Now if he’d have subbed in OPS or EQA and FIP, we’d have our very own player sabermatrician!

few players think this way though

it’s really hard to differentiate “I suck” from “I’m just not seeing the ball right now” from “I’m just getting unlucky right now”. For better or worse, players are always making little adjustments.

And so many quotes and newspaper articles can’t be taken seriously. Twice after hot streaks from Prince, Haudricourt/Witrado have basically written the same article twice about how Prince had been pressing, but now he’s figured it out (implying that his recent hot streak meant Prince would return to 2007 form):

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=757620 (Haudricourt, Jun 2)
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=773505 (Witrado, July 16)

Clearly, there has been a difference between 2007 Prince and 2008 Prince, but no player ever says, " I’ve had a run of luck, but I’m swinging the bat the same as I was last month when I sucked, so I’ll probably go through another rough patch when I suck."

5-2 Mets in the 6th

Looks like the dream scenario of today’s awful performance only costing the Brewers a half a game in the Wild Card standings might come true.

Gamel first hit video

I see you uploaded it, but there seems to be a sound issue. It’s all there, but it skips about four seconds in the middle right when he gets the hit, you don’t hear the crack of the bat until he’s almost to second. That’s for me, anyway, but it did it both times I watched it. Thanks for uploading the video though, pretty sweet to have all that stuff archived in one place. I didn’t get to see it live.

Huh, weird

It’s something about Facebook compressing the audio and video when I upload the files; the video plays too fast (remember Brett Lawrie’s Babe Ruth-double speed video?). It seems to work fine when I upload them to BCB’s Metacafe account, so maybe I’ll upload them there first, redownload the video from Metacafe in .flv format, and up THAT to Facebook. Kind of a pain in the ass.
