Rumorville: Fielder, Hoffman

I'm too lazy to actually provide, you know, links, but:

  • The Nationals are still after Fielder, though the odds of anything happening there are pretty unlikely.  (And rightly so: what would the Nationals have to offer?)
  • The Brewers are staying in touch with Trevor Hoffman's agent, as he is the only "A" closer left, but they've had no indication that Hoffman would want to pitch in Milwaukee.

Yawn.  I'm going back to bed.  :)

I think I owe you a Coke.

I’ll leave it on my kitchen table - you can pick it up at your leisure.

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

Hoffman is no longer an A closer.

People may call him that, but there’s a reason SD hasn’t re-signed him.

I'm not so sure about this

10 K/9, 2 BB/9 last year still, 3.50 tERA (2.40 in ‘07), and his away splits were better than his home splits. I’d love him on a 1-year deal for around $5-6 mil, at least.

Scored three times and detonated an indisputable in four visits to the batting box.

Melvin

It sounds as if he talked to the agent of Fuentes and Hoffman and never discussed them. What did they talk about? Chargers in the playoffs?

How about...

… “hey, I”m just calling so I can say I called you, and you guys can say you’ve been in contact with other teams when the Angels or some other team that actually intends to sign a free agent before February tries to low ball you. Deal?"

I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.
