McClung avoids arbitration
I just learned that the Brewers knocked off one of their arbitration-eligible players by agreeing to terms with right-hander Seth McClung.
Deal is for 1 year at $1,662,500.00. McClung made $750,000 last season, when he went 6-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 37 appearances (12 starts).
Prince Fielder, Corey Hart and Rickie Weeks are the remaining arbitration-eligible players for the Brewers.

I wonder
If you were Doug Melvin, would you offer a Turnbow-esque long-term deal to Son of Clung?

clarification, please
Do you mean if we were actually Doug Melvin, Brewers GM, or if we were GM instead of Melvin?

If you were the GM. And not living in France. :)

And here are the details: 1 year at $1,662,500.
(pretty much what I’d have expected, at least—Grant Balfour got $1.4 million out of the Rays for 2009.)

Was this his first year of arbitration?

No, second
He avoided arbitration after last season by signing a $750k deal.

Actually, third
He was eligible in 2007, too, but signed before the deadline. (I’m assuming he fell under Super-2; did his time on the DL in ’03 count as part of the service time clock?)

Hmm
Maybe spending so much of 2007 in the minors screwed things up, too.
