Jim Powell off to Atlanta
Powell has accepted to contribute to the radio broadcasts of the Atlanta Braves, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. However, it doesn't look like he'll be the lead play-by-play man, as we initially would have thought. The Braves are also looking to bring back Don Sutton (father for former Brewer TV man Daron) and pair him with Powell.

Sad to hear, because I always thought down the road he could be the next Uecker. They sound just alike, got confused every now and then about who’s talking to who :)
Sounds like he’s moving close to home though, and that’s always sort of a dream job like opportunity. He was great all these years, and I wish him the best in Atlanta.

Good for him
Bobby Cox keeping it old school should make Powell happier about the baseball he announces.

Oh No
Ned Yost could be our next play-by-play announcer!

Sweet. That would be borderline ideal.
Vegas is in a class unto-itself, it's really not a "city", more a wonderland of awesomeness.

It WOULD be funny
after a Corey Hart at-bat to listen to Ned wonder on-air, “I wonder why Macha didn’t have Corey bunt there?”

My politics and his were just about opposites
so his remarks outside of games alienated me. But he did fulfill one role that I think was absolutely necessary. If you’ve ever listened to Uecker without someone to laugh at his jokes – that is no audience or sidekick to guffaw, it really hurts the presentation. He has been the Ed McMahon to Bob’s Johnny C.

Yeah, I didn't always agree with his baseball opinions
but he’s an extremely skilled announcer, and he always kept us updated on the minors. Hope they can find a good replacement for him.

Hopefully he'll explain that Hope Springs Attorney joke at some point
good luck Jim, hope you don’t piss anyone off. I must admit that he’s one of the better ones out there.

I still miss Daron Sutton.

He announces some UWM basketball games on the Time Warner Cable local sports channel
I don’t get why he’d spend summer in Arizona announcing baseball and then come back here for winter.

Good Luck JP.
Bob and JP made a dream team. I understand leaving, no longer under Bobs shadow, more money, more exposure. Best of Luck JP.

He's going to
be a hard one to replace…maybe Ruben Quevedo could replace him….not sure he’d pair up good with the Uecker though.

Is the requirement for the new PBP guy to sound exactly like Bob, or at least like the previous one? Pat Hughes and Jim Powell sound a lot alike, after all.

I hear there are fewer furries down by Atlanta.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Saaay!
Maybe they’ll bring in the guy who played Bob’s color commentator in Major League!

Major League II
via IMDB:
[Harry is drunk when he introduces the game]
Harry Doyle: Hello, Tribe fans, welcome to Major League Baseball… sort of. The attendance today is 14 hundred and 12. Most of them left after that 10 run inning the Red Sox put up. Take over Monty, I’m in the bag.
[head hits desk]
Monte: [as the outfielder catches the ball, the crowd is disappointed] Fly ball… Caught.

I wonder
So if you’re the Braves, do you debrief Jim Powell before the first Brewers/Braves series? I mean, he’s seen every game, and probably knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Brewer players better than almost anyone.
If every game matters…

Sorry to see him go
It’s a real shame to see him go and I second most of the comments above. I occasionally listen to the Cubs games down here when I’m especially bored and Ron Santos makes my ears bleed. It’s hard to find good help these days.
We also need someone comfortable enough to take the booth with Bob who’s definitely getting up there and makes more mistakes every season. We can only hope.

This is very disappointing. It is really hard to find good announcers and Powell was pretty awesome in my opinion. I really thought he would be there to help ease the transition after Ueck.

also: I kind of hope they give Jeff Cirillo a shot at the job I think he could be pretty alright. He used to come on the air with Bob and Jim every once in awhile while he was still playing and I thought he was pretty funny and seemed knowledgeable. I don’t what I think about his TV appearances last year but I don’t really like the format that the TV broadcasts use so, whatever.

Though I can't imagine it would actually happen
I don’t mind Cirillo on Fox Sports. With a little work, he could be a better jock-turned-media-guy.

Play by Play
I feel they need to get someone with experience doing play-by-play, not just color commentary. Even though Cirillo might be a good analyst, he wouldn’t be the guy to call 3-4 innings on his own.

What about Bob
I’ve been wondering, is Bob really ready to break in another announcer?
