Rumorville: Brewers on Deck
During a Q & A portion at the Brewers on Deck at Midwest Express Center, Melvin fielded questions about free agent pitcher Ben Sheets.
“It doesn’t appear that it’s going to happen,” Melvin said, noting that Sheets recently meet with the Texas Rangers.
Sound's like the bridge is all but burned back to Milwaukee.
A young fan also asked Melvin if the Brewers had any interest in free agent outfielder Manny Ramirez. Melvin responded:
Melvin said there wasn’t a place for Ramirez on the team and Milwaukee already had a left fielder.
“Who would you rather have Manny Ramirez or Ryan Braun?”
The young fan chose Braun.
So, there we have it, nothing overly new, just confirmations on what we already expected. Jeff Suppans of the world, here we come!
The article is from a Racine newspaper columnist, Greg Giesen.

If I'm reading you correctly
If the “young fan” (who really was roguejim) had answered Ramirez we’d have him instead of Braun.

I don't think it works that way
Otherwise, Ned Yost would have been off the team years ago. Oh, and Eva Mendes would have replaced Rickie Weeks at second base.

Only at second?
How modest.

I dunno
I look at that picture and can’t help but think “second base.”

This is as good a place as any to point out that Taylor Green was a fairly prominent part of Uecker’s Winter Warm-Up, albeit in a Canadian context.

Speaking of the On Deck
anyone attend and see how Fielder is looking?
by MadJimiBrewha on Jan 25, 2009 5:41 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I didn't
but I read the Brewerfan thread on the issue because you piqued my curiosity. A few of them were impressed and said he looked a bit leaner, and a few others couldn’t really tell. So that seems like a positive.

Thanks
I suppose we won’t get an absolute answer until we see him in a baseball uniform.

Here's a quote, from a poster named DMiles23
I got into the Fielder/Weeks line. We were probably about 120-130 people back. It seemed to go pretty smoothly. We got up there in around 20-25 minutes I’d guess. I got a Weeks 8×10 that I took signed, and I got Fielder on a bobblehead. Both guys were very nice and cordial. And like someone else said, I was VERY impressed with the condition Fielder seemed to be in. He walked by us on the way to the autograph stage, and my jaw dropped. He looked lean… or as lean as Fielder is going to be.

It makes sense.
I’ve heard other rumors that suggest the opposite, but the leaner, fitter Prince seems to be a logical reaction given that appears to be Prince’s driven nature, his desire to make as much money as possible, and his decline in production last year that coincided with a ballooning waistline. While he doesn’t appear to be a gym-rat by any stretch, you would think the guy would make an effort to hold his body together for the next three years so he can get the huge pay day he’s been angling towards since he made the majors.
I have an unreasonable dislike of Bill Hall.

I saw him there
He walked right by me and my wife said, “he doesn’t look fat.” He had a polo shirt on and looked pretty fit to me. He’s still short.

So he worked on his weight,
but didn’t work on his height at all?
What a lazy jerk
