Rumorville: Zack Greinke
Rambling Al stumbled upon a great Zack Greinke rumor. Apparently, Zack is practically a Brewer right now, having been traded for J.J. Hardy, Mat Gamel, Angel Salome, and Manny Parra. The Brewers and Royals are just waiting for the WS to end before it can go through.
Needless to say, this is unsubstantiated. I'm wondering where the Badger Blogger is on this story, though. Covering the Zack Greinke trade rumors the way the Zack Greinke trade rumors fear!

Al never cites Brewerfan.net when something comes up there
Apparently Haudricourt was saying that this would be a cool trade on the radio and this guy just heard it. I don’t know how many times Al will say “I saw on a message board…” and then not mention Brewerfan specifically. I also liked the 4 consecutive links to stories that he mentions are all from the same site, Dave Barry’s blog, in the last one.

Oops
Forgot to link to Al.
I hadn’t noticed about Rambling Al and Brewerfan.net. In this case, though, he linked to bleacherreport.com.

A lot of times he'll find things linked on Brewerfan and link straight to them
In this case he credits another guy, but when he reference’s “talk radio chatter” he’s talking about what someone said in the Brewerfan.net thread on the subject.`

Yeah, he does that with stuff he finds in the Mug too.
He’s been better about it lately.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

Only going on hope and the itsy-bitsy tiny miniscule small chance that this is true
I am now really looking forward to the end of the World Series.

Why the Wait
I know that there is a moratorium on big announcements during the WS (unless your are A-Rod) but I believe that announcements can happen before the WS starts.

Though I doubt its validity, I would love this trade. When you combine 3 years of Greinke (10mil/yr) with Gallardo, Braun, and Fielder this would put the brewers in playoff contention ever year. Plus the royals would be getting a good return. 2yrs of hardy (or trade him), 6yrs of good hitting catcher, 6yrs of very good hitting 3b man, and a LHP with potential. If the crew can pull of this trade all they would have to do is sign a competent pitcher and take care of the C and CF openings.

Really?
At this point none of the Brewers mentioned are anywhere near the level of “established” that Greinke is. There’s nowhere near the amount of pitching included that it would take to get ZG, and it doesn’t really solve any of the Royals’ defensive woes.
Even still, this trade could still prove to be a wash for the Royals simply because they could DH Gamel and avoid the defense conundrum with him, and because their offense was so bad that Hardy and Gamel could provide serious upgrades.

Hardy is excellent defensively, and Yunietsky is the opposite
So how does it not help their defensive woes? And as far as being “established” goes, yeah Greinke had a great year. But J.J. has had great years in the past, and Greinke has had mental issues that could come back at any time. The amount of pitchers is even, so I don’t know what you’re talking about there. Even though this trade will not happen, I actually think it’s probably the best offer the Royals would get.

that is true re: JJ
i thought of that as soon as i posted about JJ vs. Yuniesky, but Salome is not much defensively and you couldn’t use him anywhere else. Also, saying that the # of pitchers is even doesn’t really address the point of quality.
also, if you want to talk mental issues, looks like JJ might have some of those himself now, and although he’s never been ‘diagnosed’ like Greinke, looks like ZG is well past those problems or at least knows how to deal with them: i mean, if constantly losing games 1-0 against inferior pitchers doesn’t drive you crazy as a SP, what will?
plus, while Hardy has had ‘great’ seasons in the past, Greinke has improved steadily every year since coming back, and had basically the second best season by a pitcher in the last 20 years in 2009. no, he won’t be a 10-win player every year, but he’s a safe bet to crush the NL. Manny Parra, the pitcher the Royals get in return, seems likely to drown in the AL.

I think it's more likely J.J. has STD issues
I don’t think he’ll have trouble bouncing back, I think most positions players in the league have had a bad year before and turned out fine. Do you really think Greinke can replicate this past season ever again? As you pointed out it’s the second best season by a starting pitcher in 20 years, and I personally don’t think he’ll ever sniff it again. I really don’t understand your viewpoint on the pitching swap. The difference in quality is WHY we would be sending them three everday position players, who they’ll have control over for a combined 12 years. Parra’s use is just to fill the hole in their rotation left in their rotation left by Greinke. Two things that I’m tired of hearing (not your fault): 1. How much better the AL is. 2. How much Parra “sucks”. First of all, Parra would be going to a division that was not even able to produce a single playoff calibre team this season which is quite a step down from the NL Central. Secondly, Parra would do very well there. The fact is, Parra’s stuff is just too good for him not to eventually become a successful pitcher. He’s been good in the past, and he’ll be good again. Going to the A.L. might be the best thing for him, considering how many left-handed hitters there are there. I saw a fanpost a little while back comparing Parra to a former Brewer pitcher with similiar but lesser stuff, who never turned out. It was Jorge De La Rosa, and a few weeks later he figured everything out and had a great second half of the season. Do you see where I’m going here? In 3 years Greinke will not be a Royal either way, so they’d be foolish not to take this trade if it was offered. The only reason that they’d be offered this is because the Brewers are THAT desperate for another top of the rotation starter. If I were moustache I’d make this trade, but I’d feel sick doing it.

no, you are right.
i understand about all this. i don’t think Parra sucks, and that his ‘stuff’ will translate to some decent production at the Major League level. i do think that Hardy will bounce back enough offensively to be very valuable at SS. i just don’t know how to value Gamel or Salome. i love Greinke. honestly, he and Lincecum are my favorite players (with a lot of love going out to Rickie Weeks), so i’m biased here. i do think that Greinke could be a consistent 7-win pitcher over the next 3 years, but even given that, i’d have my reservations if i was Melvin, like you said. i ‘see where you’re going’.

the #42
Oh, trust me, my towel is on the ready for this. Still, I doubt it is true. Further still, I’d really enjoy this happening.
Just seems funny this crops up after a crazy write up on here that went something along the lines of, Royals get a milk carton and the Brewers get Greinke.

the towel will be needed for the event that I soil my pants
this would be truely excellent. Although the price of 3 players worthy to be on a big league squad and one (Salome) who could be close if they just want a hitter is quite steep, I would leap all over this one. I wouldn’t have preferred to protect Gamel…but still…
If Melvin pulls the trigger on this one, I’ll take back one or two bad things I said about him. Not all of them mind you:P

Also, everyone who posted in AZCABrewerfan's thread on trading for Greinke will be required to apologize profusely...
… for mocking him ruthlessly after his fanpost.
I’d enjoy that only slightly less than seeing the trade actually go down (not that I believe it will).
Personally, I don't give a crap about Brett Favre.

Make the trade
We need pitching. We are losing anything. He is a good pitcher on a bad team, lets see what he can do with some runs and defence behind him. This I hopw would only be step one of a few moves we need in the pitching dept.
