Where was this two months ago?
For the first six innings, it looked like more of the same for the Brewers tonight, as they fell behind 6-0 and looked lifeless against Adam Wainwright, who was cruising towards his 20th win, which likely would have made him the only major leaguer this season to reach that mark.
Then, all of a sudden in the seventh, the Brewer bats came to life and the Cardinals completely imploded. From the top of the sixth on, the Brewers scored 12 unanswered runs, partially fueled by five Cardinal wild pitches and one passed ball, and quickly turned a laugher for the Cardinals into a blowout victory for the Brewers.
Ryan Braun went 2-for-5 in the game, picking up hits #198 and 199 on the season. Felipe Lopez, Alcides Escobar, Craig Counsell and Jody Gerut all also had multiple hits. Prince Fielder went 0-for-2 but walked three times.
The Brewer bats covered up another awful performance from Braden Looper, who allowed six earned runs on ten hits in six innings of work tonight, and trailed 6-1 when he was pinch hit for. Not only did the Brewer bats save Looper from a loss once again, they rallied just in time to get him his 14th win. Todd Coffey, Claudio Vargas and Trevor Hoffman each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game.
Looper did manage to get through six innings without allowing a home run, so he'll finish the season with 39.

from the THwitter
When the Cardinals were leading 6-0 with Wainwright on the mound, I’m guessing they weren’t expecting Brewers to untuck shirts at end.
:-)

To appear on the ‘Best of 2009’ DVD, likely, given the presumptive outcome of the RedBirds’ season
Edited post to correct the number of passed balls
Molina only had one tonight, his season total is four. Of course, saying he had four tonight doesn’t strain credulity given how he played.

Ah, I see where I screwed up
He has four passed balls on the year, not tonight.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Looper
First Brewers RHP to win 14 games since 1993 – from the THwitter, though he forgot Chris Capuano.

Yeah, I mean his post says Looper was the first Brewer to win 14 since 1993
He forgot Capuano, so that’s why I added the RHP qualifier. I should have been more clear.

Third
Look at the bright side – it’s a guarantee of 3rd place tie>
Brewers fan lost in South Carolina.
Braun 4 MVP?
Ryan Braun could make a serious case for MVP candidate I think without question. He is among the league leaders in almost everything…

Bullpen
I like that seven (or eight) pitchers in the bullpen is considered (at least by the TV guys) a worryingly low number to get through three meaningless games. It’s not like that’s the total for five months of the season or anything.

It is if you're talking about the Cardinals
The Brewers…well, Smith got hit in the face yesterday, Weathers is shut down and Narveson and Villanueva are starting. So the only new addition currently there is Axford (and McClung, I guess.) The ’pen is still down two; at least Macha bothered to use Hoffman in a non-save situation.
I didn't realize Weathers was shut down
Not including Smith, there are six guys out there. Some teams can get by with only 11 pitches earlier in the year but…guys are tired and overworked at this point I suppose.

My vote is...
… on Sunday they tell Suppan if he wants that 30th start, he’s throwing a complete game no matter how many pitches it takes. End of problem.

Worst 14 game winner ever
Okay, so probably not “ever,” but I’m sure the next edition of the Mug is going to have a few things to say about where he ranks amongst the most pitiful winning pitchers. Looper is just so bad…
Melvin has to pick up Looper's option.
Last night was a perfect example of what Looper does: lure the opponent into an error/passed ball/wild pitch inducing stupor through the magic of below replacement level pitching.

The bright side of Looper
I bet it would be superfun to have him pitch in the next MLB video game.
I’m envisioning a “keep the score close” option, where if one person gets too big a lead, the computer brings in Braden Looper and has him pitch - even if he’s not on your own team. One inning later, and we’re all tied up. :)
