Another place to talk about terrible umpiring.

Terrible umpiring leads to switch in World Series crew

link

They want to get more experienced umps in the Series. Why?

Umpiring mistakes caused anxious moments for MLB in the first two rounds: Phil Cuzzi’s foul call on a drive by Joe Mauer that was fair by a foot, Jerry Meals’ error on a ball that bounced off Chase Utley’s leg, Dale Scott’s miss on a pickoff and Tim McClelland’s call on a tag play, among others.

Oh. All four of the umpires mentioned in that paragraph have been major league umpires for at least ten years. Something tells me lack of experience isn’t the problem.

after looking at this entire playoff run...

…I’m surprised the Angels made it as far as they did with the pitching that they have. Lackey has been a total stud, but the rest of them…? Also, so glad the Brewers didn’t make any moves in regards to Fuentes. XD

I think you mean FUentes

I correct total strangers on this.

Fuentes?

Oh, you mean FUentes. Gotcha.

Doug Melvin Appreciation Night

Via Keith Law:

Eddie (Milwaukee): What was Steve Phillips thinking? Almost trading a 19 year old David Wright for Jose Cruz Jr.? Ridiculous.

Klaw (1:42 PM): I’ve been asked about that trade rumor for three years but never answered while Ricciardi was still GM. The offer was made, though; I was there when the call came in. It was the first time I’d heard of Wright, since I wasn’t with Toronto in 2001 nor had I followed the draft when Wright was in it. JP’s reaction was, “I’m not trading a major league player for some guy in the Sally League.” And that was pretty much that. We had a chance to trade Cruz after that for Rafael Soriano, but JP refused to do it unless Seattle included Clint Nageotte, who, at the time, was a pretty hot prospect. It’s weird; I can’t remember some things that happened last week but I remember those conversations (over seven years ago now) like they just took place.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.
