A lefty, coached by Rick Peterson and Macha in Oakland. Makes sense, right? I just can't talk myself into a 60% Cardinal cast-off rotation.

There’s no way they pick up Looper’s option if they sign Mulder

by Donald Driver on Oct 24, 2009 11:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Sure there is

There is no reason to assume Mulder can pitch at a major league level. If he signs, it would be for peanuts to see what he has in spring, not for a guaranteed spot in the rotation. It would have little if any effect on whether or not they pick up Looper’s option.

Sign Corky Miller

I suppose it wouldn't have a big effect

but I don’t think they’ll pick up Looper’s option either way

You think Doug Melvin will get rid of the team leader in wins?

Apparently you missed

both the sarcasm, and the fact that this is exactly the kind of thing Doug will say after picking up Looper’s option.

I want them to sign Mulder, Sheets, and Duscherer

stash Parra in AAA, put Suppan in the pen.

I'd like to see:

Sheets
Gallardo
Bush
Parra
Mulder/Suppan/???

That’s not a bad rotation, really.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Suppan
Wellemeyer
Looper
Mulder

Well, if that's the way we're going

Sign me up for:

Lincecum
Haren
Halladay
Lester
Gallardo

Since Gallardo’s clearly the #5 in that rotation.

no sabathia?

or is he the guy that pitches the last 2 innings every second day?

by PagsBrewCrew on Oct 26, 2009 6:47 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Meh

Sabathia’s going to break down at some point.

Prince Fielder will eat him.

A 60% Cardinal-retread rotation

would result in my being badgered further by an STL loving colleague. Please, no.

You've got a couple screws missin' up in your toolbox, if you think that you'll stop this man from hittin' moonshots.

Nah, this is a reject Athletic

Not a reject Cardinal. If they try to pick up Wellemeyer, that’s another story. At least Barry Zito is still under contract until the rest of forever.

Wellemeyer

is also a reject Cub. Two birds with one stone! Or wait, one bird and one baby bear.

Really only a Cardinal in theory

1.2 innings since 2007. Why not? He doesn’t pitch well or stay healthy, he probably never sees the majors anyway.

E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).

Great signing if true

Well, maybe not great, per se, but a good signing. Mulder is cheap and potentially has decent upside, and if he tanks then you’ve got a cheap backup arm in AAA.

I’d like to see the Brewers make more signings like this one (Baek comes to mind).

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Worth a shot

As long as Doug doesn’t do something like sign Mulder to a 5 year 100 million dollar contract I’m all for it. If he sucks, drop him, if he’s not so bad then hey… rotation got better.

So how much is too much for Mulder?
