McClung not optimistic about returning
In response to a tweet today stating that McClung is "making it sound like you're not coming back," the righty had this to say:
@stoutguy04 just got a feeling. I would love too it's up to macha and crew.

Not a surprise
Talked to him at the ballpark on Saturday, he said he isn’t optimistic and frustrated with management. He said he wants to stay but “Macha hates me” is pretty much what he said.
Will they make moves on the bullpen arms like that with out a pitching coach?

Pretty much what he said...
not what he said. That shouldn’t be a specific quote. Right?

Who much say does the manager have in who the GM signs?
If McClung were Milton Bradley, that might be different. But who doesn’t like Seth McClung? I can’t imagine Macha telling DM “Don’t bring back this perfectly good, relatively cheap bullpen arm because I just don’t like him.”
"my goodness"

But why would a GM sign a player if he knows the manager doesn’t trust em? Look at Gamel, he doesn’t trust him and will let people like Bourgeois and Patterson PH.

Well, the manager has a decent say in who makes it out of Spring Training.

But if McAwesome demonstrates that he clearly belongs on the team,
Couldn’t Melvin and Attanasio tell Macha he’s crazy for wanting to ditch Seth?
I think it's the grunt that does it for me...

I'm guessing that if McClung plays well in Spring Training, Macha will advocate him making the club.
I’ve never met Seth, but he seems like a great guy. Personally, I think he deserves to make the team, but I hope he’s judged on his performance, not how many times he twitters with the fans.

There's an answer here
It’s not one I like. This isn’t the first manager he’s had semi-epic conflicts with and…how do I put this without both offending McClung and starting an argument…he’s played for managers who probably have an idea of what the ideal ballplayer is like and he’s not what they envision. I am not saying that it’s his fault at all. I’ve just read too many accounts of personality conflicts where the player in question is not the Standard Issue Jock, with all the stereotypes that contains, and it’s probably the culture of sports that needs to change.
if that makes any sense whatsoever.

I'm a little worried he's hurting himself with this level of directness on twitter.
I doubt it’s going unnoticed. I like the guy, but his numbers suggest that bringing him back is a close call.
But I’m sure he’ll land somewhere if it’s not here.

me too
There’s a reason I don’t have a personal blog under my real name (which is why I’m not on Facebook either) and the one I have is with one of those blog hosts that lets you lock posts to a subscriber list. When I get emo about my place of employment, nobody I work with can see it.

Hoffman's 2009 salary + McClung's 2009 salary = Hoffman's 2010 salary
Just saying…
You know me Al.

Yikes.
That probably answers the question.
If he doesn’t end up staying, I’ll follow him and hope he does well regardless of where he lands.

shrug
career era of 5.5 and BB./9 of 5.3
09 era of 5 and BB.9 of 5.7
$2 million salary
maybe that’s why he’s not optimistic about coming back.

Spot on
I like some people that I work with a lot, but they’re shitty employees.

A Lester Bangs quote?
I applaud you.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

Yes – but if you pull out his numbers as a starter it does get better – 3.95 ERA and his WHIP goes down to 1.5 ( yes I know that is not good but better than with his starts)
Yes he did have an issue with the walks this year. He had a down year this year like most of the Brewers staff. I still want to see him back to see if he can return to 2007/2008 form.
He made 1.6M this year. If he comes back for 1.5-1.7M I would bring him back. I just don’t see any better internal options.

Why ditch him?
cheap arm that can pitch anywhere you want him to. Good attitude and does well with the fans. Maybe try using him as a setup man next year.
