Playoffs, 10/9
I'm not exactly sure why there was no dedicated postseason thread the past couple days. The first game tonight has already started but better to join in the 3rd inning than not at all.

So...
… do you think any of the managers currently at home for the playoffs will learn anything from watching Torre using his closer against the Cards 3-4-5 hitters in the 8th last night and his set up man against the lesser hitters in the 9th?

Addressed before
TheJay and I have had this discussion the past two or three seasons. The thing with yesterday is that the Dodgers were behind………..it would be interesting to see what happens if the Dodgers were ahead in the same situation.
The same situation presented itself on Tuesday. I thought Gardenhire should have brought Nathan in to start the 8th inning.
Why does TBS insist on sucking at HD?

When did Chip Caray become so horrible at annoucing?
I remember I actually liked him when he announced with the Cubs. I don’t know, maybe I changed, but I remember him being much better back then.

Announcing
Well, i’ve watched a fair share of this postseason, especially that tiebreaker, and I have now arrived at the conclusion that Chip Caray and Ron Darling are bad announcers, with Darling really dragging this duo into the sewer.
I too thought chip caray was ok but he seems a little overwhelmed by the postseason. He gets a little wild with his dramatic flare and makes some pretty silly mistakes. He’s really forcing his voice into the game.
Ron Darling really bothers me because first off} he sounds like Rudy Giuliani and secondly) he’s kind of an ass. It seems like he was really coming down on the Twins for “quickly blowing another lead” when the Yankees responded with a run in the 6th after the Twinkies scored one the 5th. Is that not supposed to EVER happen? Or is my idea of baseball that skewed from watching nearly an entire season of bad Brewer pitching?
I think the camera coverage is fine, but these guys…they gotta go. I hope they aren’t commentating the NLCS, but judging by TBS’s decision to put them in the booth for the tiebreaker in Minneapolis makes me think they will.
Oh well…glad I got Gameday Audio….
Brilliant
Might be worth it for me to get GD audio and DVR

well said
I really like the statement “He’s really forcing his voice into the game.” about Caray. I liked him with the Cubs because he DOES have a dramatic voice naturally and it didn’t feel to me like he was forcing that.
Now, maybe because he was used to calling specific games for teams he liked he’s not sure how to be neutral but call a game that’s entertaining.
I also agree about Darling and thought that was a good observation about how he acted in the 6th.
One last thing: I actually think Brian Anderson is much better doing games for TBS than he is for us.
battlekow: Bill is having an oppo-gasm
Darling's normally a lot better than that
I indeed have watched Mets games on purpose. I don’t think he’s comfortable with Caray and I don’t think he’s comfortable with doing AL games.
I'm at an impass
I want to Twins to do well, but I want to see the Yankees dominate.

Me too.
But I’ve discovered this week that my dislike for the Yankees is greater than my dislike for the Twins.
But there’s plenty of time for me to root against he Twins later if, by some miracle, they survive this series.

After sweeping the Cubs last year and a possible sweep of the Cards this year
I’m starting to become a Dodger fan.

Obviously I won't root for them when they are playing the Brewers
but I’ve become my second NL team.
I gotta stop supporting these large market teams, it goes against everything I believe in.

There are Dodgers I don't like much...
… but at least they’re not whining about an opposing pitcher flipping his bat on a fly (he didn’t, and if you’re getting an out, who gives a damn anyway), or the crowd waving white towels, or the wind disrespectfully blowing in, or whatever other bit of nonsense they care to take offense to next.

Dodgers sweep
If they pull it off, they will have used three different starters than their sweep of the Cubs last year. That’s kind of strange.

Is this how you spell deke?
There are certain plays I love in baseball. One of them is the SS pretending to take a throw at 2nd in an attempt to prevent the runner from going 1st to 3rd.

Sorry.
Forgot I’m probably the only one still listening to the TBS announcers. On the single to right, Caray (I think) pointed out that the Yankees tried to “deke”, or mime taking a throw, the runner at 2nd base but he wasn’t buying it.

Why?
Thus far, Pujols has WAY better rate stats than A-Rod has had, they both have hit about the same number of HR per season, Pujols has never struck out over 100 times, A-Rod has 12 times, they both score about the same number of runs a season, Pujols has one more season of greater than a 1.000 OPS in 5 less full seasons played. They both play outstanding defense, though I will admit that A-Rod plays a more difficult position. Also, whether or not they mattered, A-Rod has tested positive for steroids and Pujols hasn’t.
The only edges I give to A-Rod would be defense and stolen bases. Why on earth is he the better player? And besides, you could make an argument for numerous other players like Ruth, Williams, Bonds, etc.
A-Rod's better than all of them
Better at playing the game. I’m not going and looking up numbers and shit. He’s the best athlete the game’s ever seen.

its gotta be the Babe. Can A-Rod or Pujold pitch? Nope.

Pick up the nickname “Losing Pitcher” and still get MVP votes and an All-Star nod? You have to be good.
