A boatload of postseason awards
Because I've been away for a few days I've fallen behind on a couple of things, including the unveiling of the SBN and IBWAA postseason awards. My apologies. Let's start with the SBN Awards:
If you read any of the other SBN baseball sites, you may have seen some of these, but if you don't, they're new to you. Two BCB writers contributed to each of the NL awards: I had one vote, and TheJay had the other. I'll publish my ballot below the results, and leave it up to TheJay to decide if he wants to post his.
SBN NL Manager of the Year:
| Rk | Manager | Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jim Tracy | Colorado Rockies | 24 | 1 | 2 | 125 |
| 2 | Tony LaRussa | St. Louis Cardinals | 3 | 7 | 10 | 46 |
| 3 | Fredi Gonzalez | Florida Marlins | 2 | 6 | 5 | 33 |
| 4 | Joe Torre | Los Angeles Dodgers | - | 9 | 2 | 29 |
| 5 | Charlie Manuel | Philadelphia Phillies | - | 3 | 5 | 14 |
| 6 | Bruce Bochy | San Francisco Giants | 1 | 1 | 1 | 9 |
| 7 | Bobby Cox | Atlanta Braves | - | 1 | 4 | 7 |
| 8 | Bud Black | San Diego Padres | - | 1 | 1 | 4 |
| 9 | John Russell | Pittsburgh Pirates | - | 1 | - | 3 |
My ballot:
1. Jim Tracy
2. Fredi Gonzalez
3. Joe Torre
I have no other comment on this award, except this side note: Nine of sixteen NL Managers received at least one vote, meaning more NL managers were acknowledged than not, and yet Ken Macha didn't appear on a single ballot.
SBN NL Rookie of the Year:
| Rk | Player | Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tommy Hanson | Atlanta Braves | 9 | 9 | 6 | 78 |
| 2 | J.A. Happ | Philadelphia Phillies | 6 | 9 | 7 | 64 |
| 3 | Andrew McCutchen | Pittsburgh Pirates | 8 | 3 | 5 | 54 |
| 4 | Chris Coghlan | Florida Marlins | 7 | 5 | 4 | 54 |
| 5 | Dexter Fowler | Colorado Rockies | - | 3 | 1 | 10 |
| 6 | Randy Wells | Chicago Cubs | - | - | 6 | 6 |
| 7 | Garrett Jones | Pittsburgh Pirates | 1 | - | - | 5 |
| 8 | Casey McGehee | Milwaukee Brewers | - | 1 | 2 | 5 |
| 9 | Seth Smith | Colorado Rockies | - | 1 | - | 3 |
My ballot:
1. Tommy Hanson
2. J.A. Happ
3. Casey McGehee
It was a tough year to be an NL Rookie - McGehee's performance might have rated higher in other years, but this season he was overshadowed by a bunch of high-impact players.
SBN NL Cy Young:
| Rk | Player | Team | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tim Lincecum | San Francisco Giants | 18 | 13 | - | 129 |
| 2 | Chris Carpenter | St. Louis Cardinals | 9 | 4 | 7 | 64 |
| 3 | Adam Wainwright | St. Louis Cardinals | 4 | 4 | 10 | 42 |
| 4 | Javier Vazquez | Atlanta Braves | - | 5 | 7 | 22 |
| 5 | Dan Haren | Arizona Diamondbacks | - | 3 | 4 | 13 |
| 6 | Ubaldo Jimenez | Colorado Rockies | - | 1 | 1 | 4 |
| 7 | Cliff Lee | Philadephia Phillies | - | - | 1 | 1 |
| 8 | Jair Jurrjens | Atlanta Braves | - | - | 1 | 1 |
My ballot:
1. Tim Lincecum
2. Javier Vazquez
3. Adam Wainwright
4. Chris Carpenter
5. Dan Haren
The SBN ballot only asked for three pitchers, but I also voted in the IBWAA awards, which required five. The IBWAA completed their slate of awards today, naming their MVP and Cy Young Award winners for both leagues. Here are their results:

Interesting
I find some of the managers at the bottom of the list a bit of humor. Can’t say I disagree too much with a lot of those votes.
I see that CY Young for SBN was pretty much Lincecum. The networks were saying how this was pretty close and it was a three-way race.
Good to see two Brewers for MVP. I would have liked to see Prince get into the top 3.
I guess my only surprise was Kendry Morales. Not surprised in a way that he didn’t deserve, that is not the case. I just wasn’t aware of what a good season he had.
Nice to see Branyan get a nod.

Speaking of which
Aren’t the Gold Gloves selected by managers (and coaches?) in each league? Either there’s a lot of splitting votes or the majority voters don’t give a rat’s ass.
Jeter for Gold Glove? Really? I’ll defend his bat and value as The Face of an organization until I’m blue in the face, but you’re going to have a very hard time convincing me he’s the best defensive shortstop in the AL. If so, Hardy will be a Gold Glover for the Twins until he retires.
My vote
would have gone to Andrus for AL GG @ SS, but Jeter did not have an awful year defensively. He was probably 3rd best in the AL as defensive shortstops go, imo. I think they missed big on Gutierrez, Hunter, Jones and Teixiera.
For the NL, definitely a big miss by choosing ODog over Utley. Rollins isnt an awful pick either, but I would have gone either Furcal or Theriot. And Victorino was a big miss too, would have gone with Cameron there.
Oh my,
I agree completely with backtocali. This is a banner day for bipartisan baseball!

I like Shane Victorino,
but I do not see him as having + defense. Maybe I am wrong.

Keith Law
just said that Cameron should have gotten one over the Flyin’ Hawaiian
2009 Brewers: Pass the liquor.
He's pretty good, and his arm is absolutely incredible.
I think it could have gone either way between him and Cameron.

Howard got second in the Internet Baseball Writers Association?
Yikes. I don’t think he’s at all deserving of that, and that’s the internet writers who should know better.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
Ryan Howard
Maybe there is a large majority of internet writers that are either named Ryan or Howard.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea
That someone, somewhere, not affiliated with the Phillies, thinks Ryan Howard was more valuable than Prince Fielder this year. The only way I could see someone honestly try to justify it is with the Jon Heyman “if your team didn’t win at least 85 games, you’re automatically disqualified” argument.

As long as
Joe Girardi doesn’t win Manager, I’ll be happy. My niece could manage a team that loaded…and be more authoritative doing it…

We're closing in on the point where we've had enough of that.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Dexter Fowler?
5th? In what was was Fowler better than McGehee?

Wainwright AND Carpenter ahead of Lincecum?
Jeez. I know I don’t have a vote, but…really?
I guess he needed more wins.
I don’t have a category for "washed-up guys who may or may not be dominant big-league closers sometime soon."

I voted for Lincecum and Vazquez over both of them.
