I really, really, really like the Affeldt vote
I think we need more of that.

Jeremy Affeldt had 0.2 more WAR than Manny Parra.
And (without taking Catcher defense into the equation) had 0.4 less WAR than Jason Kendall.
Kendall for MVP!
I was curious on that one
as well as the Yunel Escobar 5th place vote.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
yeah man
that’s your jurisdiction

The writer who voted for Affeldt didn't have any other pitchers on his ballot.
Surprise! It was a San Francisco Giants beat writer!
At least he understands that it's nonsense:
And no, I can’t really make an airtight case for Affeldt, a middle reliever, as the 10th most valuable player in the league. Especially when I don’t have Tim Lincecum, or any other pitcher for that matter, on my ballot.
Recognizing the problem is the first step.
Treating the award as a joke and throwing someone onto your ballot despite being unable to make an argument on their behalf is the first backward step.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I actually think more writers should use 10th place votes like that
Give some attention to great seasons^ that flew under the radar. I’m glad Mark Reynolds got some votes for the same reason.
^ – cue talk about how Affeldt’s year wasn’t that great blah blah blah :)
blah blah blah

Called
Voters love Howards counting stats. Add to it that the Phillies were on the good side of .500 it was inevitable. He’s the ultimate clutch though. Also accounts for Yunel Escobar’s points. I think he led the league in BA RISP, something like that.
Only 3 players in the last 25 years have finished 3rd or above in NL MVP voting, coming from a team with a losing record.
But Bryan Burwell told me that the sabermetricians had won!
And now people are leaving Utley — who had the second-highest WAR in the NL — off their ballots entirely? I don’t understand what this all means. It’s cold … so very, very cold …
I don't know.
I just don’t understand how anybody could possibly put Fielder in the tenth place spot on their ballot.
Maybe they thought 10 was the best.

Or a San Francisco voter
who felt dissed on September 6.
You've got a couple screws missin' up in your toolbox, if you think that you'll stop this man from hittin' moonshots.
I've seen fantasy names for the first 2
1)Arod in your Pujols
2)Prince and Repeat
I’m thinking about “Ryan, Howard You Doing Today?” for next year
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
well, that would make sense if Hanley and Prince were switched.

Hey, there you are!
I thought I put that Haudricourt FanShot on a tee for you, but there wasn’t a peep all afternoon.
ugh
Although I expected it, Fielder finishing behind Howard is pretty ridiculous. You can make a decent case for Hanley Ramirez but I still believe Fielder should have gotten second. I could sit here and list all the stats but you’ve probably seen them. Fielder statistically bested Howard in all but maybe one major category, and not all by small margins. You can say Howard has been clutch all you want but Prince hasn’t had any problems in the 7th inning or later either. Hooray small market.
honestly
who cares if he doesn’t win?
