Nice article about Halama, plus some speculation

Adam McC has a neat article about John Halama.  I'm not overly optimistic, but it's hard not to pull for him.

Also, if we're already plotting the removal of Corey Hart from RF, how about a Gerut/Shelley Duncan platoon?  For his career, Jody Gerut has an .803 OPS against RHP, whereas Duncan "is perfectly capable of knocking around left-handed pitching as a productive platoon first baseman, corner outfielder, or designated hitter."

For more about Duncan, you can click here. He also seems like a low-risk, high-upside kind of player, perhaps 2010's Casey McGehee.

I like the Duncan idea.

Wasn’t Gerut in a quasi-platoon batting mostly against RHP when he had his excellent 2008? Given Duncan’s pretty severe splits, I think he would benefit from that role too. I don’t know what Duncan’s defense in RF is like, but I doubt that platoon would be much worse than Hart defensively either (very possibly better). And if Duncan struggles or Gerut shows he’s capable of being the full-time starter, Duncan is still a pretty decent backup player/power-bat on the bench.

And maybe Shelley's dad can come to Milwaukee

You KNOW The Mustache actually wants Dave, so he can re-retread all of the Cardinals retreads. Again.

I don’t have a category for "washed-up guys who may or may not be dominant big-league closers sometime soon."

I heard

we’ve invited Sandy Duncan to spring training to give a pep talk. You can learn a lot from a 60-year-old woman portraying a little boy who won’t grow up.

"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

Duncan Hines is about to sign.

We declined to resign the moms who brought oranges and signed the cake variety.

Is Jonny Gomes still with the Reds?

It would be fun to get those two on the same field again.
