Red Sox offered Bowden for Hardy?
According to this article, the Red Sox offered Michael Bowden for JJ, but Melvin wanted at least Daniel Bard or Clay Buchholz.
Certainly won't make the Gomez-haters happy if true. In the end, Melvin is going to look like either a really good judge of talent in taking Gomez (while asking for Buchholz?!), or really out of touch...

You know...
… it’s possible to not like this trade without being a Gomez hater…

…it’s also possibly to be slightly facetious in calling someone an anything “-hater”…!

It is...
… but it’s also less likely that people will take it that way when the author of that phrase has earlier in the day written “I’m not sure I understand the rampant dislike for Gomez” and “plus, the hate doesn’t make sense” when defending the same trade.

You're telling me a large number of posts in that threat aren't critical of Gomez as a player?
No need to take things personally, I wasn’t referring to you, nor to every single person who thought this was a bad trade.
But the majority of responses to the trade that I’ve seen among Brewers fans today (beyond BCB as well) bemoan in some way or another Gomez’s supposed lack of talent.

If you're not critical of Gomez as a player
I guess you’re drinking the ‘upside’ Kool-aid that has also plagued Rickie Weeks.

I'm not taking it personally at all...
… my point is that you can not like the deal and still see that Gomez has ability. From my perspective the question is whether the team is better before the trade or after, and to me it’s difficult to make the argument that it’s better after without taking into a count of series of moves we HOPE are made, but which haven’t been made. Gomez’ abilities obviously figure into that equation whether I like him or not.

Yeah, I like Gomez but I'm really starting to not like the trade.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
This seems
To reflect a targeted approach on Melvin’s part, as opposed to gaining as much overall value as he can.
In other words, he’s looking for specific spots for next year (CF, C, 2 SPs). While Bowden has much more value than Gomez, apparently Melvin didn’t think that he’d be able to check one of those 2010 rotation spots off with Bowden. He could, however, check a position off with Gomez.

In terms of general philosophy, this is a really, really, really stupid idea.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
I agree.
Just trying to figure out what’s going through Melvin’s head.

If there is a factual basis to this, it only lends credence to the fact Dougie has no idea what the hell he is doing.

if it's any consolation
The “MLB comparison” for Bowden at Sox Prospects is Jeff Suppan.

I have a hard time believing this.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
If this is true
I hate DM. But I don’t hate Gomez.
I did wonder if this was the offer on the table in, say, July
And the ubiquitous “baseball source” thought on-and-off discussions was a cool way to say “Theo’s intern’s intern texted Doug’s intern’s intern” every couple of weeks.
Who knows.
