It's likely that Kendall, who will turn 36 next June, will re-up with Milwaukee.

I bet it's going to be a $4M contract

god, I hope not.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Why is it
the suckiest players never seem to get hurt much. It’s great that Suppan can take the ball every 5th day - if only he could pitch.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
At least
Couldn’t we get Blanco back?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I'd rather have Ned Yost
as catcher…well, maybe not. How about Uecker? He could broadcast and catch at the same time.

Well, it could be worse
Jason Varitek decided to exercise his player option instead of trying out free agency.
Even Varitek had a .700+ OPS
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Given that no other option is likely to be better (Rivera, Lucroy), what else were people expecting?
Apparently
There are a ton of free agents. Not many of them are particularly good, of course, but better than what we have

Anything to sound like he's disagreeing without coming out and directly disagreeing
That way he can continue to disagree with you while telling you he’s not disagreeing with you. Are you new?

Since we're speaking on behalf of Mykenk..
I believe he’s trying to say that he’d rather go with Lucroy on the cheap than spend money on a FA that won’t be any better.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Pretty much.
I’m saying there’s plenty of FA catchers better than Kendall, but not better enough to justify the higher salary they’re going to command.
Notice how dramatically better Rivera was last year.
Rivera sucks full time, Kendall sucks full time. The only way they can combine for an almost passable catcher is if they split the staff 3/2. Or start every other game. Neither of which is going to happen.
You're right.
In the last season, we’ve hit ourselves in the thumb with a jackhammer and a regular hammer. Clearly, we should ignore all other options and pick one of those to bludgeon ourselves with again.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I don't think there are any other cost-effective options.
I think Lucroy can be the teams catcher of the future, and I don’t think that any of the FA catchers that are better than Kendall are going to sign for a 1 year deal.
Who else is going to teach Gomez how to be gritty?

If Kendall's value lies in his being so great behind the plate and handling pitchers
…and the team wants that, why not go really cheap and sign Brad Ausmus?
Sign Corky Miller
What does 'handling pitchers' even mean?
I mean, the numbers were terrible last season. What was he handling? Or do I want to know?

Can you imagine how bad they'd be without Kendall?
Gallardo would’ve had a 4.5 ERA and Suppan and Looper would both have been giving up 2.5 HRs per start. Without Kendall, team ERA would’ve been 8.25! Kendall is invaluable. I suggest a 5 year contract to make sure we wrap him up so no one else can have him and his godlike pitcher handling.
Move over Doug Melvin!

I don't know
I just know that’s Kendall’s big claim to ability and Ausmus is supposed to be even better at it.
Sign Corky Miller
Have to do something with all the Gomez money
Let’s make sure they sign him for a few million over the veteran minimum. I can’t conceive of a lineup with Gomez, Kendall and a pitcher. It’s … inconceivable. I think I’d have the write the season off 100 days before Spring Training opens. This makes me so sad. Are there any GMs out there dumb enough to outbid the Brewers for him?

I wonder if there will be a bidding war.

Doug will pay X to bring Kendall back.
Mark and Gord will pay X+Z to keep Kendall away…..

I thought i heard the name Olivo on the wind?
considering the roys passed over his option

That was just my wishful thinking
It would be a lot easier to deal with CarGo in center if we have Olivo at catcher.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I'm thinking more
if Olivo can duplicate last season’s .781 OPS. Pretty much, if we can limit our Holes of Offensive Suck™ to just the pitcher and one other position, then I’d be fine with CarGo patrolling center.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
This.
At least Raul will likely suck for the league minimum.

I think I am going to make an Ode to Jason Kendall...
seemed to work when I did one for Billy Hall.

now this news. HEYSOOS CHREYST WHAT THE FACK IS STACHE THINKING. I SERIOUSLY WANT SOMEONE TO GO PUNCH HIM IN THE CROTCH.
more importantly. Kendall returning would bring me over to the fire doug side.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
It's just a matter of time before you join us...
What’s going to piss you off, is not that we signed JK, but how much we end up paying him.

Right.
I woudln’t be entirely against it if it’s for, say, $1.5MM. But only if he’s then splitting time with Rivera or Lucroy. But if it’s for more than that, I’ll be on the fire doug side, as well.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
What FA catcher did you guys want to sign?
As I’ve said before, none of the okay ones (there aren’t any good ones) are going to be available on a 1 year deal. Okay, if you think Lucroy can get something in a trade, sign one of the FA’s to a multi-year deal, and trade Lucroy.
But basically, any GOOD catcher isn’t a free agent. the OKAY catchers that are free agents are going to make a lot more money than Jason Kendall, and suck just slightly less. It’s just hard to get that upset about this. Catcher isn’t a premium offensive position anymore, at least not across baseball. And, if you get a hold of a good offensive catcher, you lock him up.
Sure, Kendall is going to suck, but don’t you want to see the price tag first? He actually performed pretty well last year when he was getting regular rest, going 3/4 days a week instead of 5/6. So, if he comes back PT, who’s to say he’s not going to repeat that? And you gotta think the salary is going down.
So, when the salary is announced, look at the rest of the FA catchers, and decide whether or not spending the extra money on them to get a minutely better offense would have been worth it, given that A) we need all the money we can find for pitching, and B) the offense wasn’t a problem last year, in spite of the catcher’s position suckitude.
Fair enough
What would you expect JK to be signed for then by the Brewers.

He only made 5M last year, I'd say that offering him for 2.5-3.5 with the understanding that he'll likely split time most of the year...
…is a reasonable offer. Or, the second part of that will scare him away. Either way, it’s not the worst thing in the world.
More realistically, he’ll probably get 4-5ish. Which is still not the worst thing in the world, but it’s getting closer.
Agreed. Which is why I recommend 2.5-3.5.
I think he should get 2-3, and you have to pay a little more for the one year deal thing, which I quantified as .5M
Puke..
Fox6 tweeted..
#Brewers more likely to pursue FA starting pitchers Doug Davis & Jarrod Washburn & may exercise option on Braden Looper.
That's bizarre
You follow Fox6 on Twitter?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Negative
But I search the #Brewers hash tag and saw that. I don’t know if that’s just the local affiliate being stupid or if they have insider information.
I just wish I could BAN users form showing up in all feeds, that brewersff user is annoying. Reposts every damn link associated with the brewers, some times days late.
I'm guessing they got that from the Ken Rosenthal blog
“The Brewers’ most pressing decision involves whether to exercise the $6.5 million option on right-hander Braden Looper or pay him a $1 million buyout. They are likely to pursue mid-rotation starters such as left-handers Doug Davis and Jarrod Washburn.”
Sounds more like pure speculation to me though.

although the hot stove is fun...
i can’t take the heartburn of hearing kendall and looper rumors. maybe i’ll just wait and see who gets signed or traded.

I'll say
The continued employment of Ned Yost long after we were a “rebuilding franchise.” Or, the mutual option for Braden Looper.

You’ve piqued my interest. Are the Brewers “Indiana Jones”?
I think we're "More American Graffiti"
with the Rangers being “American Graffiti.”

Jeff Suppan is that damn "Crystal Skull",
Jason Kendall is the love story between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christiansen.
I was just thinking that he (Melvin Lucas) makes a few good moves/movies, and then thinks he can do whatever he wants.
