Who's the back-up for Weeks?
You had a very good point in the Hawkins discussion that he may be worth $3.75 million / year, but he wasn’t the right signing for the Brewers. Are you suggesting the same thing here?
I don’t think any of us expect a healthy Weeks for 150 games this year and Counsell will be there to take his everyday place in the lineup during one or two 15-day DL stints as well as giving a breather to Escobar and whomever the Brewers choose to keep at 3rd.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
I have no problem with Counsell, and he’ll probably get what he’s worth, I just feel there were better options. Not terribly upset about it though, as he’s a fan favorite and a local guy, so, could have been worse.
Good point

McGehee could play 2B, Gamel at 3B

Counsell's teams know how to win
I know that’s a terrible argument, but there is some credence to it if you consider his clubhouse presence and his knack for being clutch. It also doesn’t hurt that he put up a .766 OPS as a 38 year old middle infielder.
Well
I’d prefer his World Series appearing teams, then, rather than the 2009 version.

Remember the headfirst slide to first in the playoffs?
Melvin wrote his contract out then and there.
