Rumorville:Jason Kendall

It looks like that Kendall did not want to finish his career as a Brewer after all. He was a little miffed last season, when he had to split time with Rivera.

The Royals signed catcher Jason Kendall to a two-year contract, according to a press release from the team.  Kendall, 35, hit .241/.331/.305 in 526 plate appearances for the Brewers this year, catching 1,162 innings.

After this news it is going to be a fight on who will be the teams starting backstop.

That's better than the $5M he reportedly was asking from the Brewers.

I guess the Royals must really need someone who can call a good game.

Making fun of Jason Kendall is a Twitter trending topic right now

searching #jasonkendallfacts bring up such gems as

@Kaufmak Why is everyone slagging the Royals? Obvious they picked up Jason Kendall for his great defen, oh wait. #jasonkendallfacts

@jasoncollette Teams will employ the Kendall shift in 2010 – 7 infielders #jasonkendallfacts

@voteformelhuse Royals games will carry a TVMA rating watching Kendall AB is too psychologically damaging for children #jasonkendallfacts

Anyway, @keithlaw seems to be leading the charge as he has been at it all night. I don’t remember people hating Kendall this much a few years ago when we signed him…

I don't think he's stupid.

I just think he’s delusional about the player he is at this point of his career. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to play. Kendall had a negative history with Macha in Oakland, so maybe he was a little sensitive from the beginning of the season about how much Rivera would play.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

Hilarious write up over at Royal's Review

here

One of my favorite lines: “One part of Kendall’s problem with slugging the ball involved playing baseball in Oakland for two years. Another part of his problem involved having craptacular slugging at most stadiums.”

Am I the only one that thinks Kendall's going to bounce back a little bit this year?

Maybe a .265 – .270 avg?

Nah, I’m probably crazy.

I think you are...

He’ll be lucky if he can match his stats as a Brewers if the Royals keep to their plan of using him 120-130+ games.

by sjlee on Dec 12, 2009 12:54 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I really don't know why

I’ve just got a feeling that he’s going to improve a little.

bling bling

Kendall will earn $2.25MM in 2010 and $3.75MM in 2011, with another $250K in incentives. It’s the same two year, $6MM deal Pudge Rodriguez received.
