Ready to start watching Spring Training?

that's what he does
he’s a game watcher. You have no concept.

They're paying him
If he has a chance to produce, that makes this a good thing. Even a below average reliever would mean they’re getting something for his paycheck. Only reason not to think this is a good thing is if you think he’ll be catastrophically bad.

again.
He's been hurt since 2007?
He hasn’t pitched well, ever, in Milwaukee.

Yep.
Maybe he was healthy for one of those first few weeks with the Brewers, but outside of that, he was hurt.
From carrying all the cash he just got?
Pretty long term signing for a FA relief pitcher. Hopefully Doug learned his lesson.
Maybe Doug needs to apply for TARP
That way the pay czar can redo contracts. That’ll free up the Suppan and Hall money real fast.
If he's able to produce much it's a happy thing
If he’s pitching below replacement-level and they decide to not cut him due to money, then it’s a bad thing.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
Or it could be too soon and they could be ruining his arm for good.

Or he knows he's pitching for his career this year
Show he’s healthy, get another contract for 2011 vs. stay hurt for most of the season, have a tough time getting any guaranteed deal.
Who's slot would he take?
I have the bullpen all locked up with the signing of Vargas.
They should probably pitch him every game, he needs to make his money :)
There's a lot of time for someone to get hurt or otherwise become ineffective before Opening Day
Can’t have too many options.
I have Riske taking the last spot in the bullpen, even with Vargas.
If we have 13 position players and 12 pitchers, our pitchers are Gallardo, Wolf, Parra, Bush, Suppan, Hawkins, Coffey, Villanueva, Vargas, Riske, Stetter, Hoffman.

sounds about right to me...
at this moment. Although the odds are minimal that Riske is better than the 5 options behind him, including some very solid lefty arms. He’s a chance at lighting in a bottle, and that’s it. And an expensive one at that.
At least the 2007 Riske is
He might be able to pitch again, but doesn’t mean his arm/stuff is the same as it was then.
True, but we don't know if the real Todd Coffey is going to come back either.
Lots of question marks if we want to get into all the ‘what-ifs’
That would make it less likely for Lofgren to make the team
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
Anyone else get sort of sick to their stomach on reading...
… “Gallardo, Wolf, Parra, Bush Suppan”? I suppose it’s better than Gallardo, Parra, Bush Suppan, Looper, but…

Yes unfortunately
This is not a playoff-caliber starting rotation. Compare to our own division:
CARDINALS: Carpenter, Wainwright, Lohse, B. Penny, Hawksworth
CUBS: Zambrano, Dempster, T. Lilly, R. Wells, Gorzelanny
ASTROS: Oswalt, Rodriguez, Norris, Moehler, Paulino
PIRATES: Duke, Maholm, Ohlendorf, McCutchen, Morton/Hart
OTHER CONTENDERS
BRAVES: Vazquez, Hanson, Jurrjens, Lowe, Hudson/Kawakami
DBACKS: Haren, Webb, Jackson, Kennedy, Buckner
GIANTS: Lincecum, Cain, Zito, Sanchez, Bumgarner
METS: Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Perez, Niese
ROCKIES: Jimenez, Cook, De La Rosa, Francis, Hammel
DODGERS: Billingsley, Kershaw, Kuroda, McDonald, TBA
I’ll let you form your own conclusions, but IMHO we may have improved to middle-of-the-pack at best…
we've got better offense than most though
all we need is middle-of-the-pack to be potential contenders
last year we were bottom of the barrel

I am not sure where our offense got better...
With Escobar, Zaun, Gomez….
Weeks probably wont OPS .855 like we did last year at 2base.

better offense than most, not better offense than last year.
Zaun’s an improvement, and Escobar should be an improvement over what hardy did last year. Losing Cam hurts, but as long as we can continue to put ducks on the pond, Braun and Fielder will continue to drive them in. You’re probably right about Weeks, and McGehee probably won’t hit .300, but maybe Gamel will get more of a chance this year.

Is that you Doug?
