Javier Vazquez for Melky Cabrera

Am I missing something in this trade? I feel like we could've given more than that to get Vazquez. What am I missing about this trade? In other news, the rich continue to get richer for the Yankees

Star-divide

The New York Yankees have acquired right-hander Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Melky Cabrera and left-hander Mike Dunn.

The Braves also are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, and the Yankees are sending the Braves right-hander Arodys Vizcaino and $500,000 in the transaction.

yeah

best pitching prospect in the Yankees system.

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Yes

We probably could have given them more, but after getting Wolf, we couldn’t pay his salary.

I'll have to look it up when I get home but

I have been compiling a list of surplus values across the league and if I remember correctly, Hart is about $9mm or so and Vazquez was at about $12mm or so. Cabrera for Vazquez almost works straight up, as Cabrera has about $11mm+ in surplus value.

Yankees probably paid a bit of a premium with Vizcaino being thrown in. Brewers might be able to match that deal but it probably means Lawrie goes to Atlanta.

Cabrera is just a slightly better player than Hart is. And the Yankees throwing in a few cents doesnt hurt.

Also...

… the Braves made it pretty clear they weren’t all that interested in Hart. Probably because of that “Walks are for Dogs” t-shirt he always wears. Maybe we should refer to him as Chuckie Hart next season.

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

I thought the Braves were big fans of free swinging outfielders.

Yeah but

at least with Francoeur they got superior defense for 3 years, and with Hart not so much.

From 05 through 07 Francoeur was about 39+ defensively.
