I’d imagine that the number of games we expect out of our “#1” is going to go way down.
Only question now is if it’s Rivera, Kottaras or Lucroy as the 2.
I'm guessing Rivera gets non-tendered now.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

I’d guess they non-tender Rivera, put Kotteras as the #2 and start Lucroy out in AAA.

Tough to tell...
…without knowing who the PTBNL is & how much KS will get in arb.
He might end up getting around $4M and not really being that comparable.
I wonder if you won't see Lucroy in the majors anyway, at least by June, with Zaun functioning as a mentor.

Replacement Level Bands...
… by decade:
70’s: Fleetwood Mac
80’s: Men At Work
90’s: Weezer
00’s: No idea. I’m too old to give a damn anymore, and by 2000, I started listening to obscure artists no one else had ever heard of.
None of them are terrible. They’ve all got a song or two you’d know the words to if you were old enough. They don’t generate the passion of Zeppelin, U2 etc., but you don’t hope their bus rolls off the road into a canyon when they’re on tour (like Styx, Journey, the Bangles, or f’in Frankie Goes to Hollywood, yeah, I’m old) either. And nobody lights a candle and cries like a little girl when they break up.

I don’t know—Geddy Lee seems to be a pretty big fan of the Blue Jays, or at least he shows up at the games on occasion. I do know that he was apparently good friends with Bryn Smith back in the day. I will be interested to see
how long it takes GGGZ to post a monthly thought that has something to do with the Brewers.
You've got a couple screws missin' up in your toolbox, if you think that you'll stop this man from hittin' moonshots.
Looks like a decent signing and at a decent price
The fact that he is a switch hitter is something of a bonus since we do not exactly have many guys that hit left-handed. I also like the fact that it is basically a 1 year deal with the hope that Lucroy and/or Salome might be ready in 2011 to play full-time. But if not we have an option for a 2nd year.
Nice signing!
Zaun has great offense, plus defense, and since this means Rivera will probably be non-tendered, will only really be costing us $1 million next season. He’s significantly better than a guy like Yorvit Torrealba (both offensively/defensively) and apparently cheaper.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
FWIW
CHONE is not a fan of Zaun… .228/.323/.353

Does CHONE, or any projection system for that matter, ever predict a small regression from a 39 year old?
Any projection system that takes age into account will almost certainly project significant dropoffs from players at this point in their career.

The question now is how Macha will handle him.
If he shows up in Milwaukee and underperforms, will Macha give a shot to one of the younger guys or extol the virtues of veteran catchers and trot him out there for 120 games anyway?
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
That depends on who's on the bench.
though I suppose if Zaun underperforms, we could just send Kottaras to AAA and call up Lucroy.
Well, he's planning on catching 4 of 5 starters
Which would give him roughly 128 projected starts in 2010.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Damnit KL!
Stepped on my FDM.com content.
I don’t see Macha standing in his way at all, look at Coffey at the end of the year, pitching just to vest his incentives. Then he was over used and wore down. I don’t really see anything to indicate he won’t start every damn game…
Macha isn't Yost
Kendall still started way too much last season, but at least Macha wasn’t trying to plug him into every single game like Yost always did.
I really doubt Zaun starts anywhere near 120 games, given his playing history. Whether that means he’ll be splitting time with Lucroy or who is still up in the air, though.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Dec 4, 2009 3:03 PM CST up reply actions
Does he hate rookies ...
or just Gamel? I mean, McGehee was a rookie this year, and he got a lot of run.
Fair point.
Though McGehee had played at the MLB level in 2008, while Gamel hadn’t, and he still played Counsell at 3rd quite a bit over both Gamel and McGehee. Zaun doesn’t have Kendall’s resume either, though their not all that different at this point of their careers, and Macha already showed a willingness to rotate his starting catcher out regularly last season.
I’m probably just being paranoid. I just don’t want Lucroy or Salome for that matter to make the major league club and then gather cobwebs on the bench like Gamel did last year when they (particularly Lucroy) could be getting regular at bats in the minors.
What begins in fear usually ends in folly.
by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Dec 4, 2009 3:48 PM CST up reply actions
McGehee took a long time to earn a shot too, though.
Before Weeks got hurt, he had played 11 times in 38 games. Then he got a few starts at second, swung a hot bat and by the time he cooled down, he’d cemented a spot in the lineup.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Assumptions
So does Lucroy start in the minors now, instead of wasting away on the bench 4/5 games?
Or does he start in the minors and let Kotteras play the bench role. Do they stick Kotteras down in the minors for deep depth and let Rivera play? There are far too many catchers right now. Somebody has to be moved. I don’t see how Rivera is tendered a contract from the Brewers.

We need to get a video of William Shatner screaming "ZAAUUUUNNNNN"
Play that before he comes up to bat. Awesome.

Very good move
Zaun is pretty much ideal, because he’s going to be pretty good but is old and has some health concerns. Even if you only get 90 games out of him that allows Lucroy to get worked into the lineup a bit. This is about the best solution they could have had to the catcher situation.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
So...
… tallying up the offseason so far from a monetary perspective, they’ve gone from Cameron, Hardy and Kendall playing for about 19 million to Gomez, Escobar and Zaun for about 5 million.
That’s a nice chunk of change, but it doesn’t mean squadoosh if they don’t spend it right…

Squadoosh = legal term

Interesting...
Cheaper than Kendall and appears to be at least as good offensively. But the real question is… can he call a good game? :)
Since apparently all one has to do is say it to make it true
I think we should all agree he calls a great game.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Just had a run in with The Stache

In his defense
You were probably drunk and throwing peanut shells at him. :)
