Winter League Update for 12/07/2009

In Venezuela:

• Alcides Escobar went 1-for-4 on Saturday with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. He's hitting .373/.408/.473 in 118 VWL PAs, with 11 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
• Mat Gamel went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple on Friday, scoring two runs, but followed it up by going 0-for-4 Saturday. He's hitting .182/.182/.455 in his first 11 VWL PAs, with five strikeouts.
• Hernan Iribarren went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run for Lara on Saturday. He's hitting .323/.380/.471 in 169 PAs.

In the Dominican Republic:

• Erick Almonte went 2-for-7 over the weekend with two walks, a run scored and an RBI. He's hitting .318/.448/.447 in 151 DWL PAs.
• Carlos Gomez went 0-for-4 on Saturday with an RBI and a strikeout. He's hitting .327/.439/.423 in 58 PAs.

In Mexico: New Brewer Trent Oeltjen spent part of his offseason with Hermosillo. He's hitting .348/.406/.446 in 100 PAs, but hasn't appeared in a game since November 10.

In Puerto Rico: Efrain Nieves pitched out of the bullpen yesterday for Mayaguez, throwing two perfect innings with three strikeouts. That lowered his ERA to 5.40 in 3.1 PWL innings, with three walks and five K's.
