Making your '00 Face: First Base
With the '00's almost behind us, it's time to take a look back and work together to make a BCB All Decade team for the '00s. Each day, we'll tackle a new position, and we'll have our 25 man roster complete sometime around the 1st of the year.
The concept here is pretty simple. Each day, I'll give you a list of candidates: For position players, it's the full list of players who appeared in at least 100 games at the position during the '00s. You'll have 48 hours to vote. Today, we're starting at first base, with easily the smallest field of candidates. The nominees are:
Seasons as a Brewer: 4, 2000-2003
Slash line as a Brewer: .276/.366/.536
UZR (Fielding) as a Brewer: -10.6 runs*
WAR as a Brewer: 10.2
* - FanGraphs only has UZR data since 2002, so this number does not reflect Sexson's 2000 and 2001 performances.
Seasons as a Brewer: 2, 2004-2005
Slash line as a Brewer: .289/.376/.464
UZR (Fielding) as a Brewer: -12.3 runs
WAR as a Brewer: 4.6
Seasons as a Brewer: 5, 2005-2009
Slash line as a Brewer: .284/.381/.550
UZR (Fielding) as a Brewer: -27.2 runs
WAR as a Brewer: 12.0

They're all good hitters, poor fielders, and not very fast.
But props to Fielder for his home run celebration, and the head first slides that make us all laugh.

It's only a flop if he physically bounces back up off the ground before reaching the base.
So yeah, it’s a flop. You win.

I used Sean Smith's site for that.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I'm kind of surprised that Sexson doesn't have more votes right now.
I figured he would maybe get, like, a third of Fielders total.
If the chronological order had been reversed, and Sexson was the current Brewer, you'd probably be right.

I think
That before this year I would’ve probably voted for either O or Sexson, but with Fielder’s improvements in BA, OBP and defense I feel I couldn’t vote for anyone else.

I really liked Overbay.
Didn’t vote for him, but I really liked his game. More than I probably should have, based on his WAR, which I was blissfully unaware of while he was here.

OOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nice to see 2 other people ironically voted the O as well.

Big Richie Sexson
was my early 2000’s hero. That guy could sure smoke the ball.
And bowls. *allegedly*

Kind of a shame.
I like all 3 of these guys – Fielder’s kind of a no-brainer though.
Voted for Prince,
but would like to say I loved O and Big Sexy as well.
If Jaha had played in the 200's, I think he may have won the vote
