I couldn't believe it either
I thought he was at least 32. When healthy his numbers are actually pretty good.
I'm guessing the Brewers would be allowed to give him a physical before a deal goes through.
At which point, he either becomes a guy who’s too injured to trade for or a new project for Rick Peterson.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I like this deal.
I think Hart and Maine are in similar situations. Hart’s a hitter with decent potential who’s never really been able to put it all together. Maine’s a good starting pitcher with somewhat questionable health. You could make a case they’re of nearly identical value, but as a pitcher, Maine is in a better position to help the Brewers.

acknowledged reply fail
I agree with KL – I think it’ll be a while until Hart rights the ship and he shows no sign of doing so in Milwaukee. Yes, he’s got enormous potential (if he can figure out the slider and continue to take walks like he did near the end of 2009), but it’s not like we’ll pull in Sabathia or Greinke for Hart. If the player has any positive value, pull the trigger on the trade (contingent on full physical of course).
At this point
I can’t say I would complain about the move. I just have this voice in the back of my head that keeps saying Bill Hall, Bill Hall, Bill Hall when I think of Hart. Don’t get me wrong, I want the guy to succeed, but at his current pace I’d be happy to get some of value in return, i.e. Maine before his value is too low. Plus, with the numbers Hart has put up I don’t think it would be extremely difficult to replace him.
BCB, the preferred above replacement level sarcasm supplier.
It's been noted before in articles that:
the last time John Maine pitched well and healthy, was when Rick Peterson was his pitching coach.

This move would excite me more than signing Wolf would.

I'd do this...
….presuming Maine passes a physical.
Same years of service, similar cost (Maine should actually be cheaper).
Granted, he’s only pitched over 140 innings once. But he’s young, a #2-3 talent, under team control. If we get 25 starts out of the guy at ~$3 million, it would be a steal. Hart is replaceable. Gerut, Gamel, FA, whomever.
John Maine is better than most of the pitchers on the free agent market
But given his injury status I’d want a prospect of two to come to Milwaukee in this one. Won’t happen but we can hope. Anywho, still think that a Gil Meche trade is the best option.
If he looks to be healthy I like it
As much as I’d like to see Gamel stay at third, you could start him in RF at 3A and make do with Gerut and friends for a while without losing much projected production from Hart. I’ve always liked Maine.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
Yes
Like others have said – as long as Maine is projected to start pitching when the pitchers and catchers report.
Hart really does remind me of Hall way too much – except without the contract. I love him – have his bobble heads – and autographed baseball and picture of Hart and want him to succeed – I just think that the time for him was 2009 – and if his RF replacement is projected to be no worse – pull the trigger on the trade.
