Rumorville: Corey Hart for John Maine
Via MLBTR, New York Post write Joel Sherman has this nugget to tweet about:
Will put up links in morning, but learned #Mets talking to #Brewers about Maine-Corey Hart swap.
Maine's stats are here. He looks like a poor man's Rich Harden, both in terms of ability and injury frequency (Rick Peterson, please pick up the white courtesy phone). His ERA has been moving north in each of the past 4 years, but his WHIP is still well below the usual 1.4+ that Brewers starters usually put up, so that makes me happy. If moving Hart means we have room for Gamel and McGehee in the lineup, that wouldn't be so bad (though I imagine we would also look at other right fielders like Catalanatto). More to the point, if Peterson can keep Maine's arm attached to the rest of him, Maine could be a great addition to a staff that's a little short on talent.
Tom H. has more here.

I like this idea
If only for the fact that it gets pitching in place of hitting, albeit not so great pitching (for not so great hitting).
Id want the Mets to throw in a lower level prospect to even it out. A guy like Kyle Allen perhaps.
Speaking of Harden why aren't we linked to him
I’d love to nab a former Cub with that kind of talent.
I dig it. Would need a little bit extra to top it off.

Maine's 4-seamer
is awfully straight and hittable. I haven’t looked up the whiff % on it but I’ve never been sold on his stuff. Of all the people to sell low on, Hart’s #1 on my list. The day he learns to hit that low’n’away slider is the day I can hit Maine’s fastball. That is, probably never.
Yes please
I’d take that trade as-is in a second unless the Brewers team doctors are more concerned about his shoulder than everyone else seems to be.
Hart is underappreciated.
Hart is a legit 20/20 guy who hits for decent average and OBP. He had an appendix not a blown knee or shoulder. To only get a John Maine who has been a tease at best is dismal. Best to address pitching without trading Hart for a gamble. Go the free agent route. Keep Gamel in the minors until somebody gets hurt and have him play 3b,1b and corner OF.
Umm, are we looking at the same player?
His career OBP is .326, that’s pretty poor. He should be in his prime but his power has dropped two years in a row. He is also not a particularly good base stealer. Realistically, he is a league average corner outfielder.
Maine is a solid pitcher when he’s healthy and that’s probably about what an average corner outfielder is worth these days. You won’t get a healthy league average starter for a league average corner outfielder.
