Rumorville: Mulder, the inimitable Charlie Zink
Per MLBTR:
- Jon Heyman tweets that we are meeting with Mark Mulder's people today.
- Boston.com's Amalie Benjamin tweets that we are meeting with minor league knuckleballer Charlie Zink.
There's a lot to like about the Charlie Zink rumor. For one...the fact that his name is Charlie Zink is awesome. The fact that Ms. Benjamin has an "in" with Charlie Zink's agent is equally awesome. That Charlie Zink is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design is awesome. Plus, Amalie Benjamin is hot, which, well, is awesome.
This I vow: if we sign him, I will purchase a game-worn Charlie Zink jersey, no matter the cost.

Dude
She is not hot. It looks like someone put janeane garofalo’s head in a vice and started sqeezing.
As much as I’d be excited about Charlie Zink, I’d be more excited if this was 2002 and we were looking for pitchers to put us over the hump. Not ones to just play out the string.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
Agreed.

Charlie, if you’re reading, please ignore him. :)
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
here's your hottie
Also, I think having a knuckleballer would be cool, but how effective is he?

Is this going to turn into The Office episode
where they take sides as to whether Sandra Bullock is hot? (I would go with no on that as well)
that was Hillary Swank
and I come down on no in that case too

You're both insane. :)

You know
That’s the likeliest explanation.

Booyah!
Give me Hazel Mae and a stack of pancakes and I am good for Christmas.
Knuckleballers piss me off.

Oh yeah. Whoops.
And normally I am an Office buff. I guess thats what I get for not double checking.
Hillary Swank is only hot
if you’re into that Huge-Mouthed-Lady-Who-Looks-Like-A-Guy Look.
I am not into that look.

If Steven Tyler and a Venus Fly Trap were able to breed they would produce Hillary Swank

From what I know of Steven Tyler
he probably tried.

If memory serves, he's pitched in one MLB game
The opposing starter was the first pitcher in almost a century to give up a dozen runs without losing.
Knuckleballs are fickle, though. He might do well in Nashville.
good memory
I covered Charlie Zink’s one and only appearance. The Red Sox scored 10 runs for him in the bottom of the first. Zink took a 12-2 lead into the fifth but couldn’t get out of the inning. The Rangers scored 8 runs in the fifth and eventually took a 15-14 lead in the sixth before the Sox came back to win 19-17.
Scott Feldman was the Rangers starter, and despite the ten run first inning he actually hung around until the third before getting knocked out.

Hence the signings of Kottaras (who was Wakefield’s personal catcher in Boston) and Zaun (who apparently is one of the best catchers in the majors at blocking pitches).
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
