Macha: Gallardo & Parra the only "locks" for the rotation
"In a sit-down with reporters at the Winter Meetings on Tuesday, Brewers manager Ken Macha identified only two 'locks' for next year's starting rotation: Right-hander Yovani Gallardo, of course, but also left-hander Manny Parra, who was 11-11 with a 6.36 ERA in an inconsistent 2009."

Here's To Hoping...
Peterson can help with that.

This gives me some faith in Doug
This is how it should be… I’m glad he knows enough to look past ERA.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
I had the same thought.
Assuming the decision is driven by something other than a knee jerk reaction to the fact that Parra is a young left hander they can control for several years yet. If it really is because of the metrics beyond ERA, that’s great. I’m willing to give Doug the benefit of the doubt and assume he looked past ERA. I wouldn’t be surprised if Parra was a major topic of discussion during the interviews for our new pitching coach.

Macha's saying good things, I hope he sticks to them
In the same meeting he stressed that he would be pushing the running game in 2010 too. That would be nice. (And hopefully he’ll actually keep it up for the whole season this time rather than just the very first game of the season like last year.)
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
Me too.
Particularly since we lost so much run production out of CF.

I'd be curious to see
what Bush is making next season. If he’s only making $4 million-ish, he’s a good guy to gamble on. (He’s far likelier to be pitching for us next April than, say, Mark Mulder.) However, the thought of him making even $6 million is hard to stomach.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I'm unclear on how this works...
I know he’s up for a raise based on service time, but do the Brewers have to decide on whether they want to non-tender him before knowing how much that raise will be?
Yes
They must offer him a contract for X amount by the end of this Saturday. Doing that keeps the player signed to the roster, though the player is not stuck with whatever amount the team fills in. It’s just a starting point for negotiations.
Players eligible for arbitration like Bush will exchange arbitration figures with the team in January and negotiations based on those will take place after that.
Parra a lock?
I’d go with a pretty-good-chance-to-start-the-season-in-the-rotation, but I’m also tempted to have him start the season at AAA to get his legs under him.
