The Brewers did not get through Day 1 of Spring Training without the first injury news of the year.

Bill Hall, the frontrunner at start at third base, was diagnosed with a partial tear of his left calf muscle on Friday and will be sidelined 4-6 weeks for rehabilitation. Hall was injured while doing conditioning work before the start of Spring Training.

4-6 weeks, huh?

Sounds like we’ll be seeing a lot of Gamel and McGehee at third base this spring.

He’s not the worst pitcher ever, just the worst good pitcher.

Hmmm

I was hoping that Hall would bounce back to halfway decent this year. This is really going to hurt his chances of landing the job on his own.

Lets hope this isn't a sign of things to come

I’m strongly reminded of Gallardo last year. Granted Gallardo is much more valuable to the team than Hall, but I was looking forward to seeing what Hall could do after his lasik

D'oh...

Didn’t even make it to the actual start of spring training.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Exactly what I was thinking

"If loving CC is wrong I do not want to be right"
"If lovin’ Braun is wrong, I want to be a repeat offender"

"She might have been the one that got away.....who am I kidding? They all got away!"

Will this help or hurt Gamel's chances of making the team, I wonder.

This will certainly allow him a lot more playing time, which will be good. However, that gives him more of a chance to not impress.

Seeing the silver lining: At least this will help the Brewers judge whether or not Gamel is ready more accurately.

Neither.

A four week rehab would give Hall 3 weeks to be ready by opening day. Six weeks means Hall has a week, and maybe Counsell and Lamb fill in for him a couple of times the first week. Even the worst case scenario doesn’t create a long-enough block of open playing time for Gamel to sneak into it.

He’s not the worst pitcher ever, just the worst good pitcher.

This gives Gamel more of an opportunity to impress, though.

Yep

This was supposed to be the rejuvenation year.

Tough start…

This is bad news

I had him penciled in for the “most improved player” if you don’t consider injury (Gallardo)

Hopefully he can be playing opening day, though it looks like he will still be working out the kinks at that point if he is just back for a week or two…

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

damn

Is this a sign for things to come.

it's just your traditional stupid pre-ST injury

remember, last year Gallardo reported to camp after driving 20-some hours with a torn-up knee that he hurt at home. you just can’t predict what guy will do something stupidly self-inflicted the day before they need to report.
