"Isringhausen, 36, stands at 293 career saves, including a franchise record 217 in seven seasons with the Cardinals. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers also have expressed interest in bringing him into camp to audition for middle or set-up relief." - St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

I'm cool with that. Coincidentally, Doug Melvin called me last night to see if I had Lee Smith's phone number.

I wouldn't mind adding him to deepen the bullpen

Who gets knocked off the roster if he comes?

The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws.

I would assume Morlan or Julio.

NRI so imagine it is not an issue

Unless he plays his way on the the MLB team.

right

if he makes the team, somebody would have to come off the roster on April 1 … could be a reliever who pitches poorly in S.T., or Morlan, or by then, Mark Rogers will probably be back on the 60 day DL, and thus off the 40.

Also, cheese.

Kapler, Nixon, Mendoza, Isringhausen....

and I’m sure there are more. The trend I’m beginning to notice over the past few seasons is that Melvin isn’t afraid to kick the tire a little bit.

Figures

The Cardinals can’t count on a guy like Villanueva to wake up their team again so they have to plant a mole. :)

Dear TLR,

These sob’s still untuck their jerseys after each spring training win. They also insist that Miller is better than Bud. More next week.

The important question, of course...

Is do you actually have Lee Smith’s phone number?

He’s not the worst pitcher ever, just the worst good pitcher.

I also have no problem giving Izzy a try out

Despite a trip to the DL last year it didn’t appear that Izzy lost much of anything on any of his pitches. He did have what appears to be a big problem hiding his curveball however. That is something that could be fixable and while Dave Duncan is an excellent pitching coach he isn’t a super guru when it comes to some mechanical fixes. So this seems like a no cost decent reward proposal.

From Adam McCalvy's blog:
The Brewers are not interested in former St. Louis reliever Jason Isringhausen, another right-handed former closer who, like Gagne, could be open to a Minor League deal. So it appears that the team feels it has enough competitors already in camp to put together a quality bullpen.

not too long ago, DM wasn't interested in Looper anymore

And a month ago, we were going to pass on Hoffman..

Gord Ash was on the radio today

and said that he had no interest in Ryan Braun.

Not sure what to think about that.

Also, cheese.
