Andy Marte... worth a look?
His performance over the last few seasons suggest that he's regressed significantly from the player he once was, but it's still hard to ignore what he did from ages 18 to 21, where he was consistently one of the best young players in baseball. I have a feeling someone's going to give him a second chance, and they might just find themselves with a pleasant surprise on their hands. It wouldn't be the first time the Indians got rid of a 24-year-old busted prospect right before he put things together.

Eh. It would be interesting.
But we already have McGehee, Bourgious, etc, that all seem to be at this point just as good as Marte. Now if Damaso Marte goes on waivers, than we’ll talk.

I’d try to do the NRI/non-major league deal with him. If I thought Gamel had a chance at staying at third, I’d just brush my shoulders off.
that's not going to happen
somebody will take a chance on him and put him on their MLB roster for a while. Maybe the Pads. I’d certainly be curious what he could do in the NL … you know, the level above triple-A but below the AL :).
Also, cheese.

I was just about to post the same thing.
In addition, though, as the linked article says, if a team claims him off waivers, he is out of options and can’t be sent down to the minors unless he goes through waivers again.
