Game Thread #-36: Brewers (0-0) v. A's (0-0)

Good afternoon and welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 2009 Cactus League. It's Jeff Suppan (0-0) vs Josh Outman (0-0) in Maryvale at 2:05. Here's the full A's lineup.

Outman is a 24 year old starter acquired in last season's Joe Blanton trade. He went 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 6 outings (4 starts) for Oakland in 2008. He was the Phillies 10th round pick in 2005. Here's an excerpt from Outman's entry in John Sickels' 2009 prospect book:

Josh Outman is the winner of the coveted Coolest Name in Baseball Award in the Pitching Category. He also has an 88-93 mph fastball, a hard slider and a decent changeup.

Sickels rates him as a B- prospect. Jeff Suppan, on the other hand, is Jeff Suppan.

The first game thread of 2009 is now open.

Other than the game thread?

(Moved to new spot at work. Just in case the local Brewers Radio Network affiliate bothered to carry ST games—which it didn’t last year—I brought in a radio. 106.3 bzzzzt. 1550 bzzzzt. 1500 is fine, which means I’m listening to the Red Sox and Twins tonight instead.)

FWIW

per TBTSNBN:

You can listen to the game on the radio on WTMJ-AM (620), with new announcer Corey Provus teaming with Bob Uecker. The game starts at 2 p.m. CST.

Totally random thing here

Anyone here have any experience writing .html forms? I am trying to come up with a form where first the user picks a month and then depending on month it will know how many days there are to choose and then once the date is picked it will query a MLB web page to list the games scheduled for that day. Anyone know how to do that?

if the first user choice effects the next available choices

I would probably go with javascript. forms would be fairly clumsy for that, I think — w/o javascript, you’d have to stretch it out over multiple pages.

but if you do do something simple with forms, they are really easy. I could help if you need it, but I’d guess you could figure out the basics from a web tutorial in about 5 minutes.

I'm pretty sure it is

In general, contracts are guaranteed unless stated otherwise — if it were a split contract, or a minor league deal like Gagne’s, it’d say so.

wow, cool!

that’s great news. that, to me, makes the gagne deal look better. basically the Brewers have gagne competing for Julio’s spot — either way, they are out $1.5 – $3M to give one of those guys a chance, and I’m willing to believe that Gagne has a better chance of not imploding after looking good for a month of s.t. games.
