Hotel Suggestions in Phoenix area?

My wife and I are headed to Spring Training for a mini-vacation between March 28 and April 1.  We are wondering if anyone out there has a good hotel suggestion for the Phoenix area.  We went to ST a couple years ago and stayed in a budget hotel near Maryvale, but are looking to find a deal on a little bit nicer hotel this time around, even if it is in another part of the Phoenix area.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

where we stayed last year

Last year was our first trip to spring training. Stayed for 3 nights at the Homewood Suites 2536 Beryl Avenue, Phoenix. I recall drive to the park ~15 minutes or less. Hotel is near shopping, restaurants.

It’s a business class hotel in an industrial park with free breakfast and free happy hour snacks/beer. Pool area was nice but the water was NOT clean and we didn’t end up swimming very much, but did sit by the pool and talk to other team’s fans from all over which was fun. Very nice baskball half court, also free. Food pantry convenient but pricey. Didn’t use the fitness room. Pretty much a typical business class hotel with clean rooms and newer televisions.

Would like to hear recommendations from others. We have 2 kids and are looking for something a little resort-ish (clean, pool, bar, kids areas) but not huge $$$.

Good post, thanks.

Go Crew!

Not really

Just wanted to jump in and say that I stay at my best bud’s home for gratis.
I only bring the wallet out when we have a thirsty sitdown at Tempe establishments.

I stayed at

The Embassy Suites near the airport last year. It’s not that convenient to Maryvale, but it’s pretty close to Tempe Diablo Stadium (where the Angels play), and therefore ASU if you’re looking for nightlife. The hotel itself was pretty good, though you’ll need a car as there’s not much in the immediate vicinity (i.e. within walking distance).

I’ll probably stay there a couple nights again this year. I’ll be out there March 21 – 24. Planning to catch the Brewers/Angels @ Tempe, Brewers/Giants @ Maryvale, and Brewers/Rockies @ Tucson.

There are some resort-type places in the area if that’s your thing, too. Check Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, some of the communities to the N.E. of Phoenix proper.
