Game Thread #-13: Giants (14-12) at Brewers (11-8-3)
I don't know about you, but I've had a long weekend and I'm ready to put my feet up and catch a baseball game.
While it had been previously reported that Carlos Villanueva would get the start today, Brewers.com is reporting Mark DiFelice will make his first start of the spring instead. He's been one of the best pitchers in Brewer camp this spring, allowing just one earned run on two hits in eight innings of work wrapped around a scoreless appearance in thew WBC. He's struck out eight and has yet to walk a batter.
For the Giants, it's Jonathan Sanchez getting the nod. He's making just his second appearance of the spring, and his first start. He allowed one earned run in three innings his last time out. If the Giants want to leave Sanchez in Brewer camp at the end of today's game, the Brewers may allow them to take Tony Gwynn Jr. home with them.
Game time is at 3:05 today from Maryvale, and the game is on WTMJ with Cory and Ueck.
Sunday's Game Thread is now open.

Todays Line-up from McCalvy (who’s blog has a few interesting titbits of information from Macha’s morning meeting with reporters)
Rickie Weeks 2B
J.J. Hardy SS
Corey Hart RF
Prince Fielder 1B
Bill Hall 3B
Mike Cameron CF
Chris Duffy LF
Jason Kendall C
Mark DiFelice RHP
So the opening day line-up minus Braun
I think "tidbits" is the generally accepted US use. :-)

DiFelice gives up a jack to the first batter he faced.
Not the best start.

Crap, now what?
I had high hopes for DiFelice as a backup starter, but if he blows his one start in spring training, will he even get a second shot?

He probably should get one more chance this spring in relief
But to get a longer outing he may well have to pitch in a AAA game.
I was a bit worried when I saw the score
Came over late after the Badger game then I saw it was DeFelice and I exhaled better him than Yo or Soup etc.
I cannot wait for the regular season to start I cannot get into spring training this year

Almost a team cycle in the third
Villy walk, Rickie home run, Hardy triple on a ground ball into left field(!), Hart sac fly, and a Fielder double before Hall and Cameron made the last two outs.

Has anyone heard if Braun is going to play tonight?
I am just wondering if he will be in the USA line up tonight?

Brad Nelson
will be the bench guy i root for with the booze twinged rhetoric of a fanatic. He will join the pantheon of Gabe Gross, Mark Loretta, Russel Branyan, Jeff Cirillo, Matt Stairs, and Gabe Kapler. I will slip shots down my throat and donate money to different churches every time he hits a home run, facebook message my friends when he is penned in to start, and slap the person next to me on the back every time he draws a walk so we both feel like we learned something important.
….I should really go do something….

I'm with you on Nelson
There’s always that guy you root for a little bit of irrationality. At some point the following conversation will occur in my household when Brad Nelson makes the roster:
I go up to my wife and give her a big smooch.
Wife: What was that for?
Me: Because I love you.
Wife: No, really.
Me: Because Brad Nelson just hit a 2 RBI double.
Wife: You mean Brad Nelson from the Brewers? Isn’t he just the last guy on the bench?
Me: Sometimes I think I don’t even know you.
Giants, with excellent bench management
Saved Ryan Rohlinger for the highest possible leverage situation.
