Rockies 7, Brewers 1
W: Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0)
L: Yovani Gallardo (2-2)
HR: Sal Fasano (3), Todd Helton (4), Ryan Spilborghs (3)
The Brewer bats never woke up today, as a lineup composed mostly of backups and whoever wanted a free bus ride to Tucson managed managed just four hits on the day and was held scoreless until picking up three hits in the ninth, led by Carlos Corporan's RBI single.
Yovani Gallardo pitched five innings and gave up six runs on six hits, including three home runs. Mitch Stetter and Lindsay Gulin each pitched scoreless innings, while Jorge Julio gave up a run in his frame.
Alcides Escobar committed his fifth error of the spring defensively, and also went 0-for-3.

A Yo Question
Colorado seems to be the one team that has Yo’s number having put that nasty beating on him in Denver two seasons ago and then today hitting him pretty well after a couple of really good spring training starts. What I always start thinking when one team seems to just light up a pitcher that other teams have trouble with is, have they found a tell. Is Yo tipping his pitches and Colorado has figured it out.
Now excuse me I have to go look for black helicopters and shine my tin foil hat ;)

I think you've got a sample size issue here.
The Rockies lit him up once in 2007 and again today. I’m not quite ready to call two instances a trend.

There could also be a mental aspect
With a young pitcher, it is very possible that he still remembers that initial beating and when he faced them again may try a little harder to prove it was a fluke, resulting in overthrowing, which generally leads to a bad outing.
That being said, it is only spring training and I’m not worried. Chances are he just had an outing were he didn’t have his A game and it randomly happened to be the same team that gave him a beating one and half years ago.

I'm pretty sure
If a pitcher had a memory so long that he was pressing in spring training 2009 to cover for a bad outing in 2007, his mental makeup would have eliminated him from contention for a big league team years ago.

I know
I should have stipulated in my initial post that I don’t think this was case at all in this situation. I was just saying that it isn’t inconceivable that a young pitcher might remember such a horrendous outing and try to press a little the next time he faces the same team.

He allowed one hit and struck out five in 3 innings against COL earlier this spring

Chiming in late here
‘Cause I got home from Tucson around midnight, and didn’t get in to the office until late this a.m. Yo simply did not look good yesterday. He was frequently behind in the count, and was getting hit HARD. All 3 of those homers were the type where you hear the ball hit the bat and think, “Uh-oh. That’s going to travel a long way.” I don’t know that it’s a Rockies thing, but man, it didn’t look good.
