Stat gathering help, please!

Star-divide

Hey all.  I'm in a pretty competitive points league on CBS Sportsline.  We play for a good chunk of change, though it is amongst friends.

This league uses Quality Starts and Holds as categories, and the points these stats accrue is significant, but PECOTA does not project them.  (I've adjusted the PECOTA spreadsheet to give me projected fantasy points based on the weighted means, which, of course, is pretty simple.)

I came up with a pretty reasonable way to estimate both of these stats based things PECOTA does project--the QS projections especially correlate to 2008 QS numbers without actually refering to said numbers, which is success enough for me.  But, I think the formulas could be better if, for example, I had access to gamelogs in a spreadsheet format.  I've tried to figure it out on Baseball-Reference and RetroSheet before, but I can't seem to do it.  So . . .

1. does anyone want to tell me how to get that info, if it is to be had in the first place?

2. Does anyone know places that do project Holds and especially Quality Starts?

If nothing else I just want to fool around with this and get better at "projections" or "stat-y" things.  I'm such a beginner here.

Thank you, informed and enlighted Brewers Fans (if I have "a people," you are it!)!

I didn't read very carefully

but I’m pretty sure a recent BP Unfiltered update said that the PECOTA cards would soon be projecting holds. Or something about holds, anyway.

Holds, as I’m sure you need no convincing about, are colossally stupid.

Also, cheese.

yes, of course.

also of course: i didn’t set the stat categories! if it was me i’d only give points for hit-and-runs attempted and grittiness.

The PFM over at BP now has holds

You’ll be able to access a projection for that. I believe you can throw in QSs as well.

they do have QS—don’t know how i missed that, but there are no holds. if you are thinking H=Holds, it’s not—that’s Hits.

Holds are stupid

but they are a stat just to get middle relievers and set up men into Fantasy.

well, right

it’s a band-aid for a bullet wound. If you rate pitchers in large part by wins and saves, middle relievers need some help.

Also, cheese.

As a non-expert

Wouldn’t LOOGYs rack up the holds? They’d help in ERA and Ks, too. Maybe the hold stat doesn’t help LOOGYs, now there’s a stat that’s beyond my grasp.

I think

you need to go here for more statistically appealing fantasy baseball games.

nice

I have a Strat-o-Matic board game from the 60’s or 70’s. It was my Uncle’s from when he was younger. I have absolutely no clue how to use it.

I just can't

evaluate players in terms of wins, saves, losses, average, homers, etc. without regard to defense or hitting/pitching stats that actually matter. It’s tough to cross over.

but it's fun to look across the table at your opponent

and just know that you are going to kick his ass this year, and saying so.
