Peter Gammons Blog "Rickie Weeks Breakout Year"
This is what Peter Gammons had to say today on his blog at ESPN. Out of 10 general comments, Rickie was #10.
"I'll buy into this being Rickie Weeks' breakout year after watching the work Willie Randolph has put in getting Weeks to slow down his game."
God I hope so!!! Just imagine how much better we are if Rickie can contribute at his potential. This is nice to hear from someone with the respect of Gammons.

meh, Peter Gammons has said
every good player we have had for the last 20 years would be traded to the Red Sox for a piece of candy corn.

What?!?!
I was reading ESPN the Magazine’s baseball preview, and they rated Weeks as a “slick” fielder (the best in their 3 category rating system). I about fell off the toilet, Weeks is as “slick” as John Jaha was fast.

Maybe “slick” was in reference to the ball seeming to always slip out of his hand on throws to first

I stand corrected
Should’ve went with the Dave Nilsson or Johnny Estrada reference as originally planned. I don’t remember Jaha being as “nimble” as his stats indicate.

stick with Estrada
my 3 year old nephew could outrun that guy.

He needs to race Eddie Perez

Funny how this prediction
comes at the time of his current streak…
In the end, Rickie will disappoint… AGAIN.

No kidding.
I don’t care if they do turn out to be right this time (and yeah, I hope they do). Using the words “break out” and “Rickie Weeks” should be a capitol offense at this point.

I actually have a pretty good feeling on Weeks this year.
Not really based on anything, but for some reason I have a gut feeling that he is going to have a huge year.

Me too
But why is that? Only humans could expect something to happen only to have it fail to happen for three years in a row and yet in year 4, expect it to happen again!

here's why I'm pumped
Players make their biggest statistical gains in their age 26 year according to Baseball by the Numbers. That’s why I’m drinking the kool-aid this year.

Offensive or Defensive?
I’d guess the theory behind that is just experience at the level and the guys finally “figuring it out” thus being more consistent. For Rickie, wouldn’t the biggest possible statistical jump be in his defense? How many (much?) more WAR is there to gain from his bat?
We’ve seen Rickie flash some ridiculous offensive potential so I could see his offensive numbers ticking up over the season; wasn’t it 2007 when he came back for a month after that thumb injury and had a .500 OBP for the month of September?
On the other hand, is there any positive indication his defense will get any better? Coaching him to slow down is great and all, but what evidence is there that it will stick in the field after April?

Isn't that the definition of insanity?
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results….

Odd
Why would Peter Gammons care about Rickie Weeks’ skin care?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

It'd BETTER be this year...
I got a Rickie Weeks jersey at a store’s going out of business sale for $20, but the last couple years I’ve been wearing it to games, I get continually laughed at by cubs and brewers fans alike. C’mon Rickie, make me proud!
