Clears playing time in AAA for Rottino
No sense in adding roster filler if the roster filler you already have can’t get playing time.
Actually, probably not.
If Gamel was already in AAA, then McGehee would’ve had to play second. That spot is free now, but it’s unlikely Rottino will fill it.

Thank God for the vaunted access
Macha said there was an 11 a.m. waiver deadline of some sort tomorrow involving Lamb. I’m guessing he’ll have the option of taking free agency or reporting to the minors after clearing waivers.
Without it, we wouldn’t know that there was some sort of deadline that is so obscure it requires speculation to sort out. Is Tom H trying to qualify for the bulk rate so it’s cheaper for him to mail in his column?
wow
good stuff, McGehee earned it. Although his name is much harder to spell and is not as pun friendly, so an unnamed moderator will be bummed out.
September 15: Not a bad little Monday
True
But if we had let him hang around too long, he might have become a black sheep.

I wonder what impact Counsell's injury will have now
If Lamb chooses free agency after the supposed waiver deadline of some sort and Counsell is DL’d, will the team break camp with three bench outfielders?

Maybe Irirbarren is called back up?
I can’t imagine the team calling up Escobar just to sit on the bench for a few weeks, but if they need an extra utility guy, Iribarren is likely available.

Has he played short this spring?
I think so, but I can’t remember. If McGehee and Iribarren are the two utility guys, that leaves Hall & Hardy as the only guys on the roster with much experience at short. That could make things interesting if Hardy’s back gets wonky while Counsell is out.

I think Iribarren has played third, but not short.

That's correct
He also hasn’t played any CF, which is a little odd.
jeff: but i shudder to think of the bullpen analogy to sending the runner
Good
I would have been fine with sending McGehee to AAA if we had a credible option at 3rd (say, Ruscle the Muscle)…but for Mike Lamb? Now I have a second player to root for in addition to Brad Nelson. All we need is Duffy to make the team for the trifecta.
