Game Thread #-28: Brewers (3-3-1) at Indians (3-4)
Fresh off picking up a win that doesn't count, the Brewers travel to Goodyear to face their second Cy Young Award winner of the spring.
Having already faced Tim Lincecum, today the Brewers send Dave Bush to the mound to face Cliff Lee. Bush has yet to allow a hit in three spring training innings. Lee is making his first start of the spring for the Indians.
Game time is at 2 pm, and is available via Gameday Audio at Brewers.com. You can also catch the game on Gameday by clicking here.
What better way to slack off on a Friday afternoon than a game and a game thread? It's now open.

Brantley's in
I wonder if Laporta will see action

Maybe he's off being cloned
Maybe the Indians read our idea about a team of nine LaPortas.

we really need an injoke/repeating meme guide
I was going to say that some people have no concept, but you get the idea.

So, it appears Gagne might need surgery.
If that is true, could he choose to stay with the team and take 1.5 million dollars, and force us to pay the bill for his surgery?
by tcyoung on Mar 6, 2009 1:45 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
no
he only gets the money if he is placed on the major league roster, and we’re certainly not going to do that if he needs surgery. we might agree to pay for the surgery if he would be back mid-season and would agree to a minor league contract for the duration of the season with no opt-out. (now he can leave if not on the roster by 3/26 or something.)
Also, cheese.

Ok
Good. I was thinking the ball was in Gagne’s court. If he wanted to stay with the team, even if he was in the minors, he could.

That's an interesting point.
If he decides not to opt out, but also doesn’t get added to the roster, does he still get $1.5 million?

DM's not that dumb, is he?
No way they could be on the hook for $1.5 MM for a AAA washout.

You're right, though.
Maybe it’s a mutual opt-out clause. I can’t imagine he’ll be making 1.5 mil to play in the minors.

Audio
Is anyone else having trouble finding a gameday audio feed for this game?
by theBrouhaha on Mar 6, 2009 2:24 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Most days I click on the radio feed for another game, then click on the "My Team" button, choose the Brewers and today's broadcast.
Today is a little more complicated, because the Brewers and Indians feeds are both “MLB.com.” The Brewers are the one on the right.

Thanks
Usually I just click on the audio icon off the main page, but for whatever reason that wouldn’t pop up today. I got it working now though :)

Smell test
I’m working on a project to rank the Brewer position players all time by WAR. Here are my top 5:
Jim Gantner
Fernando Vina
Ron Belliard
Willie Randolph
Ron Theobald
Obviously, this list looks pretty weak, weak enough that I feel like I’m missing something ridiculously obvious. Who’s missing from this list?

Top five second basemen, not top 5 all time.

:)
It's called "playing the percentages."

Why do I remember Junior Spivey as being much better than he was?

He had that really good sophomore season
I always think he was better than he actually was, too.

Audio II
Last year, didn’t we just have silence instead of commercials during the breaks?
by theBrouhaha on Mar 6, 2009 3:07 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yep, they must have sold ads specifically for Gameday Audio this year.

No, it was like this last year. For “mlb.com” games, that Brian and Bill do, we get commercials during the breaks. For WTMJ games with Chris & Bob, there’s silence.

I love baseball on the radio, but I think gameday should refund me for the innings Kent does play by play.

Not as bad as it sounds
That is, until Bill asked Brian to take it the other way and not do too much with it.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
