Matt Wise has retired
According to his agent, via Adam McCalvy, Wise is done.
For a while there, I really liked Matt Wise. Certainly a guy I was always rooting for.

Same here.
I think you and I shared the belief that 2008 Matt Wise would outpitch 2008 Guillermo Mota. We were both wrong, but that’s never stopped us before.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Me too
I always thought he should be used more against lefties because of his change-up.
Ditto
I’ve always wondered how much a manager can alter the effectiveness of a player through wrong use. I would bet relief pitchers are most vulnerable to “misuse”.

I hated it when Ned would split an lefty/righty/righty inning with Wise and Shouse
Long live the Salad tongs. I always liked watching him pitch, just a fun guy to watch play. Never seemed to be the same after hitting that dude in the face.

Well, it is nearly 4 in the morning....
…but, that really did seem to mess Wise up. I wish him well.
Finally clicked on the link
I’m surprised no one noticed that Hernan Iribarren has another option, as noted by McCalvy in the article. That will come in handy for a little depth, I thought for sure he would be gone.

Sad.
All I’ve ever heard about Matt Wise are nice things about him. Even his corner stone moment with the Brewers, when he did hit Pedro Lopez in the face, he was very concerned and visibly upset. I don’t know if others would take it so hard on themselves after pegging a person like that, but I guess he cared so much he felt afraid to really challenge hitters after that.
Hope the pain doesn’t creep with him in day to day life.
