Kirbir's Pictures of the Week
This past week, the 2009 season of baseball got into full swing (pun intended) with the start of the World Baseball Classic. In the coming weeks, as more of those games are played, I hope to have a post devoted specifically to pictures from the WBC. Until then, you'll have to settle for the only two pictures that I enjoyed enough from it to bother posting.
As usual, photos taken from Yahoo! in one way or another.
Ryan Braun, sporting a very clean uniform, congratulates his teammates after their 6-5 win over Team Canada on Saturday.
Pitcher Mark DiFelice tags out a Venezuelan while playing for Team Italy in the WBC.
Could this be a sign of things to come for our new captain?
Tricky Rickie pulls off yet another magnificent stunt.
Alcides Escobar gets a step up on the competition to complete a double play.
Yes, tiny fan, the real baseball season will start soon. Hang in there!
I'm off to go enjoy a spring break full of work, homework, and trying to recover from both midterms and a nasty cold. Hopefully everyone remembered to switch their clocks ahead last night. Unless, of course, you're in Arizona where they don't believe in such nonsense. For the rest of us, the Brewers' Cactus League games will now start at 3:05 rather than the 2:05 we've gotten used to.

The kid outside the fence is a nice shot.
I love the ghostly image of the right fielder and the far right third of the frame.
Unfortunately the image is emblamatic of the business approach the game has taken over the last 20 years. If it wasn’t for afternoon games on Sundays and the family attractions on the concourse, it would feel like MLB was actively trying to prevent kids from falling in love with the game. My 4 year old and I did watch the WBC games together yesterday afternoon, so maybe I’m being unfair.

i like the first one...
…Braun right behind Shane Victorino, the guy who basically put an end to the Brewers’ playoff run. It kind of captures the spirit of the WBC, everyone just playing as Americans. Pretty cool.

except
Braun still has his shirt tucked in. I guess he has gone all high class on us.

Do we know it was after a win?
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."

it's one thing to gloat after beating Pujols
another after conquering Doug Melvin’s homeland.
Also, cheese.

Statistical Anomaly of the highest order...
A photo of a manager arguing with an ump and you can see the entirety of both belts.
